Had a chat with a man who had oversight of controlling the SS from the Ministry level. Here are the main and interesting pointers.

  • Ops Eagle minimum 2 weekends a month.
  • Anyone with tatoo brought back. So much so that some greenhorn um pai would bring back US sailors
  • SS work done at CID divisional level. Each Police station therefore had a dedicated SS team led by an Inspector
  • Each um pai assigned a sector. Any trouble in the sector, he has to face the boss the next morning and they will have his hide
  • Moment a headman is chosen, the next day picked up and sent in under CTPL
  • All low lives associated with SS served with supervision orders and must report weekly wearing black pants and white shirt to Police station
  • Gang clash and the entire gang get CTPL even if the guy was attending his mothers birthday
  • Chia Keng Prison created to house them and they were taught courses on vehicle mechanics
  • Ex-head of CID and President scholar was the most effective in the 80s. If he reads of gang clash, slashing , thugs in the press, his men would be called for an explanation and a full report. They were so fearful that they began proactive policing by visiting these guys and their families early each weekend and reading the riot act.
  • Those found in possession of gang land weapons charged in court

He said that it was so effective that when 2 drunk chaps not associated with SS fight in their territory, they will quickly call CID to notify that it was not them and provide the names of those involved.

He said that as a result of Op Eagle, the tatoos would be concealed by clothing and when um pai ask them to roll up their trouser legs, the tatoos would be done just above the knees. Then um pai would then ask them to take out their pants.

Unfortunately, these guys could no longer operate traditionally and that's when they entered new territory - money lending and Porn, bootleg DVDs. They also switched from extorting the vice trade to running the vice trade and providing girls to niteclubs and karaoke bars. They became bonafide businessmen for all things seedy including illegal pin ball machines etc.

About time the SPF starts shaking the trees to drop the monkeys. Life has been too soft and easy for the force. There's been too much light touch over the wrong things so far and I look fwd to tightening the screws on these clones.

Things wouldn't have gotten out of hand if there were half decent MPs in the gov't. Today you only have paper bureaucrates like WKS. Suspect many got their jobs because they were members with connections.

Unlikely they will do anything since the problem doesn't impact them personally.

In fact, most old-timers would say that Operation Eagle contributed a lot to PAP popularity when traditional disciplined triads deteriorated into street and turf gangs and they were formed to defend against in the first place.

In your opinion, what had contributed to the problems now?

It's a strategy to create a controllable amount of chaos and then tell the electorate, 'Only us PAPzis can control the gangs!'

There was a unit from the CID called the Phantom Squad in the late 50s and 60s. Squad members act like SS to provoke open confrontations with the local resident gangsters.

When the gangsters take out their weapons to challenge the undercover cops, they would be arrested ............or shot.....

Agree. .....

Also agree. They are so detached that don't see what is on the ground.

1. Parental side. Doting amounting to spoiling. Caught in rat racing and got no time for caring and disciplining their kids. Kids take the pocket money and take care of themselves. Trying to make up the parenting shortfall by agreeing and acquiescing to kids' demands as far as possible and affordable.

2. Educational side. Teachers and schools are not about educating. They're about grades and rankings. Those who can't keep up feel the need to gang up together to restore their ego shortfall lost in the grades contest.

I concur with you on this, plus the fact that many of the parents these days, do not know, what their children are doing during the time; they are absence from home.

I have encountered parents who thinks that their girl or boy is an "angel", but a devil around the neighbourhood...

Despite the fact that we have school management system, & many of the disciplinary masters ( or mistresses) were seconded or from the police force or armed forces, we still faces 'gang' & other problems in school.

In short, the chicken blame the egg, who blame the chicken that laid eggs...a vicious cycle.

In the past, the Insps or OC Team, together with the detectives belonged to a different class. Some were even ex-SS/triad. They speak the same lingo with their 'customers'. Some were even more violent than their 'customers'. They were respected, then feared.

What we have today are poor imitations. They try to act like their old colleagues. But they don't have that background and standing to gain the respect of their 'customers'. Without that respect, you don't strike fear in your 'customers'.

The ones who are capable of handling this current problem 'siam' SSB posting. They fear that if they practiced what was done in the past today, their bosses will not back them up. Can you deal with SS members the way you deal with your non-SS chaps? You can't. We are using the wrong 'tools' dealing with this problem.

It's a strategy to create a controllable amount of chaos and then tell the electorate, 'Only us PAPzis can control the gangs!'

If what you say is true, It may backfire on the PAP.

People are already angry about foreigners taking jobs, the crowded trains, flooding,.... The gang problem may be seen as just another sign of PAP incompetence

While I have no love for the MIW, I am certain you are wrong in your assessment here. "Controllable amount of chaos" meaning one death and many others seriously hurt?

What happened just happened. It exposed the inadequacies of the people who were entrusted to protect its populace due to their complacency and incompetence, period. PAP will never be in control of the gangs.

Probably going the way of all those collapsed communist regimes. The only way to go!

LKY is desperately hoping that the only one left,PRC would make it a success.

He might be wrong yet again! No surpise.
