    SINGAPORE : Police have arrested a 41-year-old Singaporean in connection with the death of a Japanese man.

    Mr Takanori Inada, 30, was found with injuries at Bukit Pasoh Road on October 23 and was taken to hospital.

    He succumbed to his injuries and died later that day.

    The suspect will be charged in court on Thursday with murder, which carries the death penalty.

    Japanese murder: Man charged

    A PROPERTY agent was charged in court on Thursday with the murder of a Japanese man last month. Jack Ang Hoe Meng, 41, is alleged to have caused the death of Mr Takanori Inada, 30 at the back alley of Bukit Pasoh between 4.50am and 6.55am on Oct 23. Ang, who is represented, was remanded at Central police division for a week, with permission to take him out for investigation. Mr Inada, a work permit holder, was found with multiple injuries at Bukit Pasoh Road. He was taken to hospital where he died five hours later. Police investigation was carried out when bruises were found on his body. If convicted, Ang faces the mandatory death penalty.

    Murder suspect faces 9 charges

    EX-PROPERTY agent Jack Ang Hoe Meng, 41, who is charged with the murder of Japanese national Takanori Inada in a back alley of Bukit Pasoh in Chinatown in the early hours of Oct 23, was charged with nine new offences on Thursday. When arrested on Nov 3 on suspicion of murdering the Japanese expatriate, police found three Apple Ipod MP3 players, 11 wallets, an assortment of foreign currencies as well as a cell phone and a watch, which were believed to have been stolen, in Ang's flat in Lorong 8 Toa Payoh and in a bank box.

    On Thursday, he was charged with possessing stolen property and four counts of stealing these items from victims at Tras Street, Tanjong Pagar Road, Kreta Ayer Road and a car park in Lorong 8 Toa Payoh between July 16 and Oct 31. He is also accused of misappropriating a mobile phone, valued at $50, between 2.30am and 4am on Oct 30 from a Mr David Crawford at Duxton Road.

    The remaining three charges are for traffic offences, which include driving a car along Bukit Pasoh Road on Oct 23 without a valid driving licence and without insurance and for taking his wife's car without her permission on that day. The district judge granted the prosecution's request to have him remanded in the Changi Medical Centre for psychiatric evaluation. He will appear in court again on Dec 9.

    Ang was yesterday charged with one count of possessing stolen property and four counts of theft, among other things.
