7 stalls in Kopitiam @ Central food court just above Clark Quay MRT were closed and out of business for months out of a dozen stalls. It over looks Singapore River. The floating restaurants on Tong Kang Boats had all been out of business for the past 6 months. Clark Quay river bank restaurants were doing poorly in business on a Friday night dinner time 8PM. All these while Singaporean PAP Govt claimed 15% economic growth and recovery. These are false propaganda for the up coming elections.

They have shot their legs in building too many shopping galleries & complexes, the economy is not that booming to sustain that surge.

Another new mall is coming up, Serangoon Central, next to Serangoon MRT/Circle lines stations.

One can guess, to see the same old stale familar shops, to name a few, Bodyshop, Giodarno, TAKA, Citigems, Cotton On., KFC, Mac Donald's etc.. and the nearest mall from there is Heartland Mall...with the same mix of shops, one can expect.

Unlike the past, each shopping centre was unique in shopping experience from the other, for example, Quessway Shopping is as different as Katong, People's Park, Peninisular, or Lucky plaza!

Furthermore, real wages have not risen that much, soon many of these shopping malls, especially those around Orchard Rd, will have the wind as shoppers.

Bery simple 2 answer: Business is good for construction industry and this is where GDP shows 15% (maybe from IR project). Then no people to eat at the place, those retired SAF scholars at GLC become business thinkers, cannot help you, lei sei lei kor si.

make sense.

same comment that some of the guys n ladies actually made when they came to Singapore for the recent YOG.

"same kind of shops at the malls."

the current GDP figures are prop up by investment spending in what sector? if it's mainly in the construction and infrastructural. what about the consumer/retail sector? are the people spending? or are we going to depend on the record tourist figures (which can be easily affected with the on set of an event like SARS, H1N1 type.)

Lets continue to teach them . No pay increase no patronize .

Simple as that . We will make examples of ghost towns .

Why do you stop FTs from coming to Singapore ?

Let them sustain the Food Courts . We will see about that .

There is no variety because the small creative businesses have all died.

Just the same cronies become fat cats taking up everything and every places.:mad:

what are your examples of small creative businesses?

The straight forward examples are hawkers tailors eateries anything that is expression of unique style unique features unique skills, contrary to huge groups and franchises. The small ones died and got eaten up by the huge ones.

You see same Kopitiam, Old Chang Kee, Fu Hua, McDonalds, KFC, etc. There is no difference from on KFC to another. Just many replications to fill up every corner to kill the tiny brave skillful and creative ones.

Burlington Square Food Court very poor business 5 out of 10 stalls dead

Korean, Indian, Chicken Rice (no sign board), Fruits and Vietnamese stalls are dead and vacant in the brand new food court which is less than 6 months old. This is Burlington Square next to Sim Lim Square & La Salle Campus in Singapore. Businesses are dying in their very hard struggle of survival while world's highest paid government of PAP brag 15% economic growth and other falsehood to false-justify their own salaries.
