Just after the massive flooding a few weeks ago, Singaporeans wake up to another island-wide flooding after heavy rain this morning (July 17).

STOMP has received flooding photos from areas like Orchard Road, Adam Road, Bukit Timah Road, Bedok and Sims Avenue.

SCDF says it rescued a total of 59 people stranded in the floods.

It said in a news release:

"At around 5.24am, SCDF received calls alerting us of flooding at various parts of Singapore."

SCDF officers helped evacuate 15 passengers stranded in vehicles at a traffic junction near Borders in Orchard Road and more than 20 stranded passengers at Eng Neo Avenue near Bukit Timah Road.

They also rescued about 20 bus passengers and people stuck in their cars at Upper Thomson Road, near Thomson Plaza.

STOMPer Nadia, who took photos of the flood at the junction of Bukit Timah Road and Stevens Road, said:

"There is a terrible flood at the junction of Bukit Timah and Stevens road.

"All four directions are flooded, and many cars and buses are stuck in the middle of the junction, as it is the only dry area.

"Cars and buses cannot go all four ways as they're all flooded. A few cars are also stuck in the flood and their engines have broken down.

"This has caused a terrible traffic jam to everyone going through Bukit Timah and Stevens Rd."

Two STOMPers, Low and katanamasamune, also sent in flood photos from Orchard Road, which was not spared from the flood as well.

STOMPer Mohamed sent in two photos of the flood at Adam Road, while STOMPer Rosy snapped a couple of photos of the flood from her condominium at Newton Circus.

"We can't be flood-free"

"it's also not realistic to expect the country to be completely free of floods. To do so would require huge tracts of land to be put aside for huge monsoon drains which will be empty most of the time."

"The land is tied up, the infrastructure will cost a lot of money, and it's not worth it,"

"PUB has an ongoing drainage improvement programme which over the years has made floods much rarer and much less severe, so much so that when it does happen, we're sometimes taken by surprise and we scramble to see how we can deal with those remaining problems."

"We all have parts to play to keep public places and our waterways clean. We must prevent the litter from choking up our drains, otherwise the litter will find its way into the drains, into the canals, into the reservoirs and pollute our water supply,"

The driver of this car drove right into the road divider during the heavy downpour in the Bukit Timah area today.

The STOMPer who sent in this picture says:

"Bukit Timah flood.

"This car drove into the divider".

I wonder if those who attend this year's national day rally will be laughing and clapping as usual.
Perhaps with a grimace and gritted teeth.

i suggest the national day to use the flooding theme. that will be internationally well-known.

Songkran!, Let's have a water festival - like our neighbouring the Thai.

Why fret? Let's enjoy ourselves with the showers of blessing - good economic growth and "got water".

Let's us be patriotic and show the Malaysians that we have more water than we can consume - do they want some?

Songkran they only throw water at one another.
This is more like the dumpling festival, where you can row your dragon boats.
