According to CNN a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Chile early Friday morning 41 miles south of Concepcion. This is the same area that was hit back in February and triggered a tsunami. No tsunami warnings have been issued as of yet and there are no immediate reports of injuries or damages. This story is still developing. You can follow the story on CNN's This Just IN Blog.
I read an article yesterday about the average number of earthquakes per year of different magnitudes and it seems like although earthquakes over the past few months appear to be more frequent, they're really not and fall within the typical averages. Perhaps it's just that with all the technology and social media, we're exposed to the news more making it seem more frequent. Anyways, I hope there were no injuries or massive damages. They're still recovering from the last earthquake.
