It's too expensive.

It's the middle of the month when 90% of Singaporeans are broke.

Count yourselves lucky! My Vacation home is 45 mins from Orlando and let me tell you everytime we go to Universal Orlando every ride incl hulk and spiderman is always 1 hour long! Even speedpass is long line! Enjoy while you can.

But one question. Over here you go one day can come back all year long for one day pass price. why the annual pass so high there?

Based on the Today report, the vistorship is only about 20% of the expected. RWS claims that this is "planned". Looks like more pressue to circumvent the $100 levy so that RWS won't go under.

Crowds 'managed'

SINGAPORE - They had turned up expecting to jostle with swarms of eager fellow visitors to Singapore's newest theme park.

But many at Universal Studios Singapore's soft opening yesterday were surprised to see relatively thin crowds.

Up until noon, three-and-a-half hours after doors were thrown open with a loud lion dance procession, there were hardly any queues at the 18 rides on offer.

Most of the rounds made by the duelling roller coasters Battlestar Galactica - arguably the 20-hectare park's star attraction - were about a quarter filled, MediaCorp observed.

Resorts World Sentosa declined to divulge first-day visitor numbers, citing constraints as a listed company.

But according to two sources close to the ground, about 3,000 visitors were expected, one-fifth the eventual daily visitorship predicted by some analysts.

RWS spokesman Robin Goh said visitorship had been "intentionally managed".

"This is the soft opening phase, we have limited number of tickets this week. We are using this to stress test the system but not overstress it so that visitors also get a good experience," he said, adding that numbers would be gradually ramped up to full capacity.

Nurse Andrea Tiew, who was there with a friend, said: "I was expecting to see more crowds and even celebrities. It would have added to the excitement."

But project manager Francis Lee, there with his wife, kids and sisters-in-law, had a different take: "With the lack of queues, you lose a bit of the atmosphere. But it's good if you're only here for the rides."

What got a definite thumbs-up: The rides. Those who survived Battlestar Galactica emerged with a wide grin and overheard were shouts of "best ride ever".

RWS' parent company Genting Group's chairman Lim Kok Thay said USS would be kept fresh, with at least one major ride to be introduced every year for the next three years.

Next year, a Transformers attraction featuring robotics and new rides will be unleashed.

Asked if RWS would do anything to increase casino attendance - a reference to media reports of lower-than-expected figures - Mr Lim replied: "We have not released any numbers for the casino, so I'm not sure where the low number comes from ... if you read my lips, I'm smiling. So, let's say things have been on track and I expect it to go even above our expectations."

Meanwhile, USS threw in a late surprise by allowing non-paying visitors in yesterday evening for two hours, after the rides closed at 6pm.

Visitors were, however, only allowed to patronise retail outlets along Hollywood Boulevard.

To top the night off, everyone was treated to a pyrotechnics display at 8pm.

Only got 18 rides and want to charge so much. Who is stupid enough to go? RWS is looking more and more like a tourist trap.

I dun understand what is the hoohaa over the 'poor crowd'. It has already been announced even before the theme park opens, that they are limiting the visitors during the initial phrases so that they can smooth out the hitches during this period.

And that is why they are giving out some rebates for visitors during this period. So stop these needless fanning....

The video only shows the entrance to the theme park where there is nothing much to do.
Rides are at the other end.
Moreover not all the rides are open yet.

13/3/2010 to 21/3/2010 were the March school holidays. If attendance so poor, then it looks like theme park is really in trouble. RWS will need to lobby hard to get the $100 levy circumvented so that the casino operations can cover the hole. If not approved, increasingly likely that there will be cash flow crunch.

RWS is in the wrong business
Look at CHC, they can throw in $300M to co own Suntec.
What product or rides do they have?

MLM Time Share holiday to Paradise.
