Passenger alleges: Cabby attacked me with metal rod

A 29-year-old man claimed he was beaten up by a cab driver and ended up with a broken right arm and a bruised right leg. Mr Jason Tan claimed the incident happened last Saturday along Serangoon Avenue 1, near Serangoon Terrace, at 2.25am, although he cannot remember the cab's details.

Mr Tan was on the way home from a wedding dinner, and was high from drinking wine, but claimed he was not drunk. He claimed that the driver rudely refused to turn into Serangoon Terrace when they reached Serangoon Avenue 1. He said he immediately asked the driver to stop, sensing something was wrong.

Mr Tan added he stepped out of the cab, as it was "safer to be out in the open", but fully intended to pay the cab fare. That was when the cab driver charged at him with a metal rod, about half an arm's length, Mr Tan claimed.

He claimed the driver ran after him for about 100m, and "used the rod to hit my arm two or three times". Mr Tan immediately called the police and his brother, and was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The police said they are looking into the matter.
