BANGKOK, THAILAND - Thai police launched a murder hunt Wednesday after the naked body of a retired Singaporean man was found dumped in a field. Teo Ah Yua, 65, had been strangled with his own shirt and his hands and legs were tied with nylon ropes, said police in the southeastern town of Sri Racha.

Teo was a long-term resident in Thailand and was married to a local woman working in Singapore. Police also found his passport and foreign currency.

'We have not found the motive but we guess he was killed elsewhere before his body was dumped,' investigator Lieutenant Colonel Suchart Maneerat said.

While Thailand bills itself as the 'Land of Smiles' for tourists and expats, there are regular incidents of foreigners falling prey to violence.

A gun-wielding man opened fire at a bar in western Japan on Tuesday, seriously wounding four people including himself after reportedly trying to commit suicide after the attack.

Why should Thailand be any less safer than Japan. I haven't seen any fights so far in Bangkok.

In Chinapore, even with weapons under strict control, you have murders.

But I don't know about being in a darkened imax 3d theatre, with goggles on.......

Somebody behind you could well pull a trigger..........with a silencer afixed to the gun......

Three arrested following death of Singaporean in Sriracha

On Wednesday Morning, the body of a Singaporean was discovered in an area of wasteland located in Sriracha District. Mr. Teo Ah Yau aged 69, whose passport was found close to his body was lying on the ground and his hands and legs were tied together with nylon string and a belt was tied around his neck. There was also evidence of trauma to his face. Forensic evidence was plentiful at the scene of the crime and later on Wednesday Police went to the victim’s house and found that items had been stolen and information from neighbors suggested that three people, 2 men and a women had visited the house on Tuesday Night and appeared to be arguing with Mr. Yau. Items were then taken from the house and Mr. Yau was also seen to leave the house moments later.

On Thursday Morning at Sriracha Police Station, after an investigation which lasted less than 12 hours, Police Major General Tanaert, Commander of Chonburi Provincial Police, announced the arrest of three people in connection with the alleged murder of the Singaporean man. It was revealed that the female suspect, Khun Benjama aged 29 was having a relationship with the victim and her Husband, Khun Wirat aged 47 soon became aware of the extra-marital affair. Assisted by a third man, Khun Suchart aged 36, they paid a visit to the victim on Tuesday Night and demanded items from the house in compensation for the affair. Items were taken and it is believed that Mr. Yau was lured to the location of the murder to speak further about the relationship. When he arrived at the location, he was set-upon by the two men who have confessed to his murder. All three suspects are facing serious charges in relation to the murder and will be held on remand pending a court appearance.
