<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I SYMPATHISE with Singapore footballer Noh Alam Shah when he says local football is stagnant. He is right.
See what the Singapore football scene is now. How did we get to this situation where excitement over local football has faded away? Empty seats in neighbourhood stadiums whenever there is a match says it all.
Footballers are young and trendy with bountiful energy within them. They want to strike out with their skills and styles and they need motivation from fans to perform better.
The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) must take drastic steps to bring back the glorious days of local football.
The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, the sponsors, the fans and the media must apply pressure to ensure that football vibrancy catches on with current and future football fans.
My suggestion: Return to the Malaysia Cup league and drop the S-League. Local fans should lobby for a petition from the public and present it to the authorities to discuss returning to the M-League. It is time for a change.

The "glorious days of local football"? What Glorious Days? U mean the days when our NATIONAL TEAM had to compete with Kampong State teams from another country and never won a single title on the international level, not even the freaking SEA games gold?

As compared to the present where S-league teams constantly beat M-league teams in friendlies and AFC tournaments and the national team winning 3 Asean Football Cup titles?

Wow, his idea of Glory certainly isnt the same as mine

FAS should keep the S league and eat the humble pie & beg the FAM to incorporate our S league into their Super & premier league. That way, we're all on equal footing with no national team playing against kampong teams. Im sure even less heralded teams like Sengkang or Balestier will have better turnout if playing against Msian clubs.
Currently the Msian Super & premier league have 14 clubs each. Not a problem to include our 12 teams. The problem is whether the msian wants us to join anot.

Malaysia cup is what the most of fans want. Noboday gives a damn about the s-league. Only one type of fan can get passionate about home vs geylang--a betting fan.

Actually given the liberal FT policy in sinkapore, why can't S-League attract the best and brightest players from around the region and become the new super league in this part of the world? Moreover, we have the stadiums and the media setup like ESPN for games coverage.

Smells like something is festering within FAS ranks -- either poor leadership or some big time kelong going on which no one wants to change
