    Leeds have a ball!

HEY, Rafa! Cheeky Leeds keeper Shane Higgs warmed up with a row of beachballs as his defence before last night's Norwich clash.

Same old story - Dalglish referee complaints fail to hide Liverpool deficiencies after yet more dropped points at Anfield

With just one win in eight league games, 2012 has been highly unproductive for the Reds, but they only have themselves to blame after their latest poor result against Aston Villa

    By Sam Bisby at Anfield

It’s the 82nd minute at Anfield. Liverpool are 1-0 down against Aston Villa and are once more set for another dismal result on home turf before being saved by the skin of their teeth by Luis Suarez.

In the press room half-an-hour after the final whistle, Kenny Dalglish is sat in front of a microphone telling the press that once more, neither him nor the team should shoulder the blame for a 1-1 draw against a side on the raggedy edge of the relegation zone.

The midfielder struggled to really make a difference and his wayward passing at times allowed Villa to have a go at attacking their hosts. Occasional runs got Villa worried, but could not link up to full effect with the attackers ahead of him.

The Dutchman had a great contender for miss of the season, with a skied shot from no more than three yards from goal going straight over the bar. Failed to back up Suarez with the support the former Ajax man required.
This time, it’s the referee’s decision-making that apparently scuppered their chances of their second win in eight Premier League matches, after big shouts for penalties were dismissed by Michael Oliver in both halves.

The Scot told the press: "It’s a coincidence, even if you take just the last three games, they [refereeing decisions] haven’t gone our way. Maybe we’re too polite.

"For some people, paranoia will set in and they’ll think there’s an agenda against a football club. We don’t see it that way, but I suppose other people will do."

I’m not too sure that being too polite is Liverpool’s problem. In the cases of the Reds’ spot-kick claims against Villa, Suarez’s reputation certainly preceded the Uruguayan, as the striker took the marginal of touches from Alan Hutton and tumbled onto the ground, looking at the official like a baby who had just had his teddy stolen.

Next up was Dirk Kuyt, albeit in a more dignified fashion, with American full-back Eric Lichaj being unfortunate enough to accidently handle the ball in front of a packed Kop, who smelled blood immediately.

However, the Dutchman’s movement presented the defender with little option other than for his arm to make contact with the ball and it was not as blatant as the Liverpool players and the thousands of fans behind the goal seemed to make out.

But that didn’t stop Dalglish having another moan and groan at the referee’s decision: "I’ve never heard a penalty not be given by a referee saying that the boy [Kuyt] was unlucky."

It can be accepted that, yes, Liverpool did serve up an inspired finish to the game and perhaps could have conjured up a winner, but shouldn’t this be the attitude the players should assimilate for 90 minutes and not just the last 15?

Dalglish can look to other sources if he likes, but the record stands at nine points from a possible 39 this calendar year. The Merseyside outfit would be in the bottom three if the season had started in January, regardless of the sorry position they currently find themselves in.

The Anfield faithful try and stick by the 61-year-old with cries of "Dalglish!" at regular intervals, the former player acknowledging the supporters with a modest lift of his arm in salute and gratitude.
However, it is the millionaires on the pitch who will ultimately keep the paying punters in positive mood, and that is a task in which they are currently falling short.
The number of fans scattered around the press box left haggard and agitated by the poor attempts to keep hold of possession and push forward were in clear abundance.

"The number of fans scattered around the press box left haggard and agitated by the poor attempts to keep hold of possession and push forward were in clear abundance."
It should also be said that, not necessarily in the Villa game, but certainly during the loss against Wigan, there was even a ripple of boos from some sections of the crowd as they revealed their frustration at their side's botched efforts.

A second league game in four days awaits Liverpool on Tuesday - this time against Blackburn - before they set off for another chance of redemption in cup football at Wembley, as they clash with local rivals Everton in their FA Cup semi-final.

It’s true that the Reds’ exploits outside of the Premier League have eased the pressure on the team, but the club are not helping themselves with such lacklustre displays in England’s top-flight, and a fixture away at Ewood Park won’t be the best place to rectify the matter at this stage of the season.

Would bringing home the FA Cup to Anfield be enough to cement Dalglish’s place as manager after the summer? I’m not so sure, with Liverpool set for their lowest league finish in nearly 20 years, not to mention three points and a place behind the Toffees.

The Kop may continue to echo his name around the ground, but Dalglish needs to wake up to the fact that his team are all but a train wreck. The excuses need to stop, or his legacy could suffer.

liverpool's form is more like a team battling relegation more than not.

blame who? blame the fucking overpaid players.

i have a suggestion, Owen is out of contract a Man U end this season, why not bring him back? Since Liverpool has brought back KD, Bellamy no harm completing the trio.
