Anyone any idea why there are still so many mosquito breeding sites which resulted in the annual mozzie season, all these despite the campaigns for mozzie-wipeout and what nots.

Because mosquitoes don't have the balls to breed inside Istana, that's why no one at the top bothers. Mosquitoes are sinkie peasants' problem. See, even mosquitoes look down on daft & humji sinkies.

Think out of the box...

I told NEA...the way to contain this problem is to breed them and collect the larvae.

If every household uses three containers and control, monitor the breeding, each will have collected 1000 larvae per week and use it to feed the tropical fishes. One million household, we get one bilion larvae one week..i.e we collect and exterminate 4 billion mosquitoes in one month.

Or sell these larvae to the aquarium shops in exchange for small rewards.

Then the Mama mosquito need not have to look for other breeding places.

Who knows, we may wipe out the entire mosquito species.

Lazy idiots..sitting in the ivory tower..

They could have just experiment with a single ward, if the GRC is too big.

Day in day out,sit in the air-con room just to announce the statistics on the number of dengue case and fogging exercise done.

What's the outcome after tens of years...??? Sitting high up collecting fat pay and problems not solved.

New dengue cases spike to 274 last week; upward trend expected: NEA

Updated 30 Aug 2016 22:42

SINGAPORE: The number of new dengue cases spiked to 274 in the week ending Aug 27, up from 222 the previous week, with the figure expected to rise further amid the traditional peak dengue season in Singapore, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said.

Another 50 cases were reported between Aug 28 and 3pm on Aug 29.

A total of 11,053 dengue cases have been reported in Singapore since the start of the year. Seven people have died of the disease so far, with the latest fatality a 79-year-old man who lived in Eastwood Drive near Upper East Coast Road. There were four dengue fatalities in the whole of 2015.

There are now 58 active dengue clusters in Singapore – up from 46 the previous week – including 10 classified as high-risk. The biggest cluster is in the area around Tampines Ave 8, Tampines Street 81, Street 83 and Street 84, where 60 cases have been reported, including three in the past fortnight.

In an advisory on its dengue website, NEA said it anticipates an upward trend in the number of new cases in the coming months. Since April, its Gravitrap data has shown a steady increase in the population of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which is responsible for spreading dengue fever, it said. These mosquitoes also carry the chikungunya and Zika viruses.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) and NEA have warned that the number of dengue cases in Singapore may exceed 30,000 this year, higher than the record of 22,170 reported in 2013.

Singapore also reported its first case of locally transmitted Zika last Saturday. It has since confirmed another 55 cases, and authorities have warned of more likely positive cases.

if they cannot get rid of dengue in sg they will not get rid of zika. everytime you hear mr. jack hammer, mr. stone cutter, mr. metal grinder, and mr. steel welder greet you in sg, you know there's a watering hole somewhere where their aedes pets are having a swim.

Watering holes starts at Boat Quay, Mr. Jack Hammer, stone cutter, meat grinder, steel welder...you can find them "fertilising" the " flowers from Lucky Plaza, Paya Lebar MRT Stations to Geylang areas....& now Peninsular Plaza area or St. Andrew's Cathedral grounds.....where the mosquitoes can gather with their "needles"....

I don't remember so much trouble in the 70s and 80s. I mean we had the floods and stuff but the mozzie population doesn't balloon that much even during the season. Now, it's of crazy proportions.

In the 60's, 70's 80's...we do not have so many infected foreigners in Singapore!...they are carriers of all the diseases that is common & prevalent in the 3rd world they come from...

LKY brought us out of the 3rd world, with the diseases, airborne, waterborne, human transmission, from the swamps, congested urban slums, farms...etc..to a diseases free 1st world...his son LHL had brought in tons of foreigners who brought back, what the father has eradicated in 50 years...

I think, he saw the dad , scolding him, when he was about to make his speech...must have said.." you are not fit to stand at that lectern'...he FAINTED!

21 Ah Tiongs confirmed with ZIKA to add to the 36 Bangladeshis, plus 1 Pinay with TB & 1 Ah Tion Bu with TB from childcare...how many more are not detected? To make money from the levies, they 'close one eye' or 'look the other way' be less stringent to the medical checkups....they are now being 'punished' by divine providence for being greedy...giving, NEA, MOM, MOH a lot of work to do, or else they draw fat salaries & bonuses, can sit on expensive designers chairs that supposedly value for money & last a life time..

Add 70% to that...they are being "punished"...& they better repent or some deadly diseases strike.....especially from rats!!!!
