Vietnam has been competing in the Olympic Games for 64 years. Now the nation has its first gold medal thanks to Hoàng Xuan Vinh, who won the men’s 10 meter air pistol on Saturday. Like Vietnam, he had his own long struggle to win a medal.
The 41-year-old last competed in 2012 in a London Olympics that ended in heartbreak. Hoàng failed to make the finals by a single point and finished 9th in the 10 meter air pistol. Hoàng’s fortunes changed in Rio. He was locked in tight duel with Felipe Almeida Wu. The pair traded shots that were near-indistinguishable when they struck the target, but Hoàng ultimately held off his nearest competitor by just 0.4 points.
Hoàng’s total overall score of 202.5 set a new Olympic record due to a new scoring system being adopted following the 2012 London Olympics.

Your PAP gabrament has been importing foreign talents in sport from China to compete on Sinkieland's behalf at major sporting events, including the one in Rio. I'm sure the foreign imports will win some gold medals for your country.

I predict my country will, as usual, have the biggest haul of gold medals at the end of the Games in Rio.

SG, being so high in GDP and median salary of almost $4000, and the Politicians are world highest paid non-accountability service to the people, we can only buy talents and cannot be seen in the same league as 3rd world country, Ke, train and invest in their own citizens. Whatever happens to that Chink Li JiaWei? No picture no sound already. After returning to China for good, I would have expected her to represent China in table-tennis.

Old man set the tone when the PAP came to power. You can see the decline very clearly. Look at all his kids - no mention of sports whatsoever. Both he and his wife did nothing associated with Sports. Eventually sports became a taboo of sorts in schools. If Saints did not have a tradition in Rugby, ACS Swimming, SJI hockey etc, we will be even worse.

There are more people in Bedok than in Iceland. The day they made PAP MPs and SAF retirees to run sports association, it went into a deep hole. Look at FAS, there are 3 people earning close to $300k per year each, and we are in lowest ranking in our footballing history.
