SINGAPORE - An online scammer was arrested by the police after duping his victims to send photos of their bare chests.

According to the police, the 27-year-old man had hacked into the Facebook Messenger app for his alleged scam. Victims received requests from a mutual Facebook friend to take photos of their bare chests and send them to him for an online project.

Some of the victims were also promised cash and gifts once the photos were sent. However, despite what they had been led to believe, it was the alleged scammer who had been posing as a mutual friend of the victims and requesting for nude photos.

He was arrested along Orchard Road yesterday (June 6) night by the police after investigations of several reports from the victims since May.

If found guilty of impersonation, the man faces imprisonment for up to five years or a fine or both. If found guilty of having unauthorised access to a computer programme, he face a fine not exceeding $5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years or both.

Investigations are ongoing.
