In Pasir Ris New Town, an elderly 77 year old man died of his head injuries after falling off a HDB lift which was misaligned and stopped 20 cm above ground level.

The man had entered the lift with his back facing the door while on his mobility scooter. Without realising that the lift stopped 20 cm higher than usual, as the elderly man reversed out of the lift, he fell backwards and hit the back of his head causing a skull fracture and bleeding in the brain.

He was rushed to the hospital but 15 hours later died of his injuries.

When queried, Pasir Ris Punggol Town Council chairman said investigations into the incident was ongoing and they were checking on the lift's past maintenance record.

Only an idiot would reverse without looking. He must have had brain damage even before the incident.

One by one the HDB lifts start malfunctioning. It always takes a death or a limb to highlight poor maintenance.

Someone tampered with evidence. The mobility is still up. He may have killed himself doing a somersault on it.

TC cannot be at fault. The lift maintenance record will report that the lifts are in good working condition. It must be the fault of the stupid elder.

Wheelchair bound 77-year-old dies in malfunctioning lift accident in Pasir Ris

By The Independent - May 16, 2016

A 77-year-old wheelchair bound man fell backwards and cracked his skull in a fall in Tampines. Chinese newspaper Wanbao said that the accident happened because the lift in which he was in, was misaligned by 15 centimetres above the ground when it opened at the ground floor. (Update: CNA said that the misalignment was 25 cm)

This is what the 15 centimetre gap looks like.

That the accident occurred at around 10.30am yesterday (15 May) morning, at Pasir Ris Street 21, Block 247 HDB “A” elevator. The man who lost his life Mr Chang Linhan lived on the 10th floor of the flat.

The man had entered the lift with his back facing the door while on his motorised wheelchair. When the elevator reached the ground floor, the old man reversed his wheelchair without noticing the huge gap. He fell backwards and hit his head.

The fall caused his skull to crack and bleeding in the brain. He was rushed to hospital, but fell into a coma soon afterwards. His family decided to take Mr Chang off life support this morning. He passed away soon afterwards.

Responding to media queries, Pasir Ris Punggol Town Council chairman said investigations into the accident were ongoing and that they were checking the lift’s past maintenance records.

An elderly man died of his injuries following a mishap involving a lift on Sunday.

The lift at Blk 247 Pasir Ris St 21 reportedly stopped about 20cm above the ground. Lim Hang Chiang, 77, was seated in a motorised wheeelchair and was reversing backwards out of the lift when the wheelchair fell over. Lim’s son told the media that his father fell backwards and fractured his skull.

Lim was taken to Changi General Hospital where he passed away early on Monday at 2.19am.

The Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council was notified of the incident on Sunday morning. In a statement posted by Zainal Sapari, the town council said the Building and Construction Authority, HDB and the police were informed.

The lift has been suspended from operating and investigations are ongoing.

This is the latest incident in a spate of accidents involving HDB lifts. In October 2015, an elderly woman’s hand was severed by a HDB lift at Tah Ching Road when the door closed on her dog’s leash.

In March this year, a faulty lift in Ang Mo Kio Street 31 suddenly shot up 17 floors, trapping an Indonesian maid inside for one and a half hours.

This is what happens when the race to get the cheapest labour for maximum profit goes out of hand.

Engineering experience in preventative maintainence counts for nothing nor holds any value in the eyes of low life TC/RC motherfuckers who masturbate them selves silly when they tender maintenance to the lowest bidder who cuts corners by cheap parts, rushed inspections or even blindly filling up maintenance paperwork to give the impression work work completion. To narrow minded profit margin oriented TC cock suckers, it is seen at best as a necessary evil and at worst, expense to be avoided at all costs

Bet the engineer or technician who could have maintained this to perfection is either driving taxi or enjoying the rest of his career as a migrant elsewhere.
