Tharman's goodwill politics - where will it stop

When AXA agreed to foot the bill of the lady whose hands were cut off by the lift while she held on to leash, I was not sure if Tharman was doing the right thing. It was obvious that this happened after the intervention of Tharman. Now that the authorities have found no fault of the lift, what next. We know that the insurer does not do these things in the normal cause of their work. Are they going to cover for all such cases. Already her useless son wants to know who will look after her son. Can afford to keep a dog but cannot afford to look after his mother.

It was obvious that the carnival for low income families in Bukit Batok was to take it one level over SDP grocery packages. Merchant were roped in, stalls setup etc. Who paid for all these. There is nowhere the opposition can offer these mini pork barrel bribes.

How do you think the old lady was responsible? The town council would have to pay compensation. The insurance company footing the bill was to forestall a lawsuit. There is NO generosity on this issue.
No fault in the lift? That's the official line to protect the town council from liability. So, no one is responsible for this independent senior's loss of hand?

According to a PA grassroot that work closely with Murali, the festival seems to be self funded by Murali himself although he had PA volunteers helping out in the festival. Murali lead a team of lawyers after all, so it is not a stretch that he know some wealthy sponsors that will make the festival possible. He most likely bootstrap the festival to avoid the criticism that he relied on PA's funds after the recent argument about the PA's partisanship in parliament that happened between CCS and Slyvia Lim.

To them it is an investment because they will be the beneficiaries of PAP and Government contracts and various goodwill down steam. If they genuinely cared, these lawyers would have given out these benefits to the low income group earlier and over the years as the low income citizens existed since time immemorial. Why do this in a political contest except to get votes for their man. I am sure none of them want to be identified for obvious reasons. This is the basis of porkbarrel politics that the US is well known for. Old man used to claim credit for not using this form of bribery but that went to the dogs when they lost 3 seats in 1991.

BB despite a by election is still a PAP ward until an election takes place n votes counted hence running some community events using ward funds nothing wrong with that.

The goodies went to low income. It will be interesting to see how that precint votes. In the west, voters in lower income districts work out the net gain and vote accordingly and it works. Chee should not have done it. Bad move. The 30 points for that much of goodies is a lot.

Just curious it was cos of Tharman that was why AXA agreed to foot the bill but normally they wouldn't isn't that what you are implying here? So this is confusing. Why would you want Tharman to stop doing it? Doesn't make sense.

Can't agree with you more! Their foreign investors friendly policies have made the low income people the deserved sacrifice lambs. The lower the wage is suppressed, the more investors they believe they can attract or retain..

They are not stupid. They know foreigners are depressing their wages and they have seen their friends get retrenched and some Myanmar or China man take their place with a wide grin on their faces. My friend earns $1,700 as a secretary and she has decades of working experience. What happened to the Singapore dream and chasing that stupid rainbow for her? Another one just got out of hospital and she had to cough out thousands of cash for a very minor day surgery because the hospital tells her she is not covered by insurance. WTF? I thought Medishield Life covers surgery. The system is broken for these two.

The trouble comes during election time when the PAP mobilizes all its grassroots resources to paint not just a picture of better days ahead, but also the image of a protective, "know-it-all" father figure who will be with them during a rainy day. Girls tend to fall for the image of "stability", that's why more girls are PAP voters than men.

That is why it is so important for the opposition to attract credible candidates. Because that is the only way to persuade the lower income to take the risk and change sides. Just like the Navy SEALS, our lower income Singaporeans have become comfortable being uncomfortable. In the military that is noble, but in politics, that is ignoble. The opposition must step up its game and convince them that they are ready to take charge and worth the risk of switching sides.

That is why the PAP has clamped down on alternative media. After gazetting, TOC became a mute puppy. It is now virtually a one-man show. The likes of TRS and ASS can't be used as replacements because they fabricate stories and engage in cyber bullying.

Both opposition parties and alternative media need a core of competent, politically mature individuals who are prepared to make sacrifices and actively engage Singaporeans on a regular basis. Get that momentum, and the Braddell Brothel Broadsheet (BBB) can't paint you as showing up only during election time.

bukit batokians arent stupid,they vote for the party which has all the economic might in the world,media influence and advertising resources and massive manpower and volunteers at their disposal.PAP is like the empire who has the economic might and resources to build a death star at their disposal.as long as u do not incurr the wrath of the emperor,he will remain benign and benevolent towards you.SDP and opposition on the other hand are nothing but a bunch of scattered ragtag rebels,freedom fighters wannabes,with no resources,no industry,no multi billion dollar corporations,no billion dollar media empire like bloomberg or foxnews network at their disposal,what can they possibly hope to accomplish?even if they win the election,they barely have the resources to uplift ur lives,they are powerless to do anything......all they can do is bark about their ideals and morality,the very best they can hope for is to maintain status quo,that things in bukit batok dont slide backwards and turn into a slum or ghetto.

i highly recommend opposition go focus on more meaningful things,singapore opposition is a joke,sg politics merely serves as a stage for these clowns to perform their circus side shows......until they learn to build empires and conglomerates and have the economic might of giants like BP or petrochina or jpmorgan or china construction bank or Sinopec or Li ka shing's hutchinson whampoa to back them up.....PAP is perfectly modeled after CCP,he who controls the gold makes the rules......as long as CCP controls China's economy,they will effectively remain in power for the foreseeable future.also notice in countries where the government are poor and weak and corrupt,they have no control over what corporations do in their country hence the haze in Indonesia.
