SINGAPORE - The police have arrested two men believed to be involved multiple cases of theft from automated teller machines (ATMs).

The police were alerted to several unauthorised ATM withdrawals on Feb 25, they said in a statement on Thursday (March 17).

These withdrawals were made with cloned ATM cards, and some of these cloned cards were detained by the ATMs.

Officers from the Tanglin Division investigated, identified the suspects and arrested the men, aged 38 and 45, on Wednesday at Changi Airport.

The Straits Times understands that the two suspects are Romanian.

Theft is punishable with a prison term of up to three years and a fine.

In the statement, the police reminded ATM and credit card owners to safeguard their cards at crowded places and ensure that their PIN numbers are not exposed to others when making payments.
