Chinese food taste awful. If she had taken rendang or satay, or maybe even chuputty/ nan/ byriani combination, I am sure she will not look down on brown or look back on black.
The meal looks horrible. It is a reflection of the level of sincerity of her boyfriend's family. The girl did the right thing to dump him and his insincere family. Poverty is a lame excuse to not offer a decent meal to a guest, especially someone who would likely be your family member in the near future.
