Police arrest man, 35, suspected of housebreaking and theft in Bukit Panjang

SINGAPORE - A 35-year-old man suspected of breaking into a residential unit and stealing mobile phones have been arrested on Monday (Dec 7).
On Nov 15, the occupants of a unit in Petir Road in Bukit Panjang made a police report upon discovering that their mobile phones were missing. Their phones had been placed in a bedroom with a window that faces the common corridor.
Officers from the Jurong Division conducted investigations and managed to establish the identity of the suspect. He was arrested along Jalan Besut in Jurong, police said in a statement on Tuesday.
The suspect will be charged in court for housebreaking and theft by night. If convicted, he may be jailed up to 14 years and fined.
In the statement, the police also offered these crime-prevention measures:
- Ensure all doors and windows are well secured before you sleep or leave the house
- All doors, windows and other openings should be well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks
- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition
- Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box
