SINGAPORE: A woman was killed after being hit by a train at Clementi MRT station early Tuesday morning.

SMRT said the incident at 6.15am caused westbound service between Queenstown and Jurong East MRT stations to be affected.

To maintain service on the unaffected stretch of the East-West line, westbound trains were turned around at Queenstown MRT Station.

Train service between Jurong East and Joo Koon stations were not affected by the incident.

SMRT also activated a bus bridging service from Queenstown to Jurong East stations to ferry affected passengers.

The first bus arrived at Queenstown MRT Station at about 6.50am.

Train services resumed at 7.03am.

SMRT said about 6,250 passengers were affected during the incident.

Passengers who were unable to complete their journeys due to the disruption can claim a full fare refund from the Passenger Service Centre in any of the 53 SMRT stations within the next three working days.

SMRT is assisting the police in investigations.

smrt should work out a standard procedure to deal with people who suicide or accidently killed by mrt and continue the mrt service without disruption or minimum disruption say 5 minutes, as this is not the first case, and i think would not be the last case.

I would prefer cheng hu get to, and rectify, the root cause for the increased MRT suicides.. which I firmly believe is POVERTY.

Like, better find out why and have no beggars on the streets rather than leave there be beggars and sweep them off the streets.

But I gotta admit it's hard...:(

Overcrowded was the main issue that SMRT had refuse to admit...The system was to cater for the service of 3 million people.. but we got 5 miliion living here now! Try to go Jurong East in the morning and you will realized that any minute, there is a possible of someone falling into the track due to overcrowding.

I foresee more cases like this one will happen very often.Putting a few old ladies to dress up in red will not solve the problem..wake up please!

it will be difficult for SMRT to spot suicidal people,,,,,

it should get help from WKS poodles, because they have the pyschic to see someone is going to commit a crime,,,,,,,

AN ELDERLY woman died after she was hit by a train at the Clementi MRT station on Tuesday morning, disrupting westbound train service between Queenstown and Jurong East stations for about 50 minutes.
Madam Quak Han Lui, 71, is believed to have fallen on the platform and then onto the tracks just as a train was pulling into the station. Witnesses at the scene said she 'suddenly lost consciousness and fell'.

The train driver braked immediately after hitting her. Her body was found under the third carriage, with her head and right arm severed.

Police and SCDF were called at about 6.15am. The woman was pronounced dead at 7 am. Her occupation is not known but she was headed to her workplace in Jurong.

Police are investigating the case as an unnatural death.

When The Straits Times visited her home at Merpati Road, her family members declined to speak to reporter. It is believed that Madam Quak lived with her husband and her daughter's family in the two-storey house.

Neighbours said that Madam Quak 'looked healthy' and appeared active for her age. She would leave the house accompanied by her daughter early in the morning, around 6am, returning only in the evening.

They added that she enjoyed gardening and they would often see her pottering around the backyard in the evenings tending to her plants.

SMRT said about 6,250 passengers were affected by the incident.

A bus bridging service was activated to serve the affected stations between Queenstown and Jurong East.

Westbound train services resumed at 7.03am.

Passengers who were unable to complete their journeys due to the disruption can claim a full fare refund from Passenger Service Centres at any MRT station within three working days.

Did not say that they would be installing these panels the year before? How many more elections do they need before they implement it?
