Taipei, Oct. 12 (CNA) Nineteen suspected members of a cross-border phone fraud ring jointly arrested by Taiwanese and Indonesian police last month were deported by Indonesia and sent back to Taiwan Monday.
Police of the two nations busted on Sept. 19 the cross-border fraud ring and nabbed a total of 31 suspects in Manado, Indonesia, including the 19 Taiwanese suspects, according to Taiwan's Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB).
Another Taiwanese suspect involved in the scam, identified only by his surname "Yeh", who is considered the leader of the fraud ring, remains detained by the Indonesian judicial authorities for further investigations, CIB said.
The Indonesian law enforcement unit also seized a large number of equipment used by the suspects in a raid on their operation center, including notebooks, 27 routers, three switchboards, two wireless sharing devices, faked documents and USB's, it added.
The CIB reiterated that it would continue to cooperate with foreign law enforcement authorities in combating cross-border crimes.
