One good strategy is to change your lawyer. Play with the billings they send you. Most of their bills are dodgy accounting. Lawyers take many cases at same time and they are stuff with billings and accounting. Some anyhow bills to wrong customers. So stuff them with billing discrepancies and you see they fumbles before you. Once they get agitiated they will see you will take legal action of the bills and you can complaint to AG office of their corrupt accounting practices and evasion of GST and taxable income.
One excuse is to tell them you come with a problem/ case now they give you more problem with the dodgy billings, so how? Last thing you want is to sack them and complaint of their billings so they better be honest to you? No spare cash for them and you are on tight budget.
remember, legal cases are intangible products. They cannot justify their production cost, material and labour costs. They also need numbers game to earn a living. How many cases must they take to learn say $10,000 a month? So many unjustifiable billings and fumble up clients billings are common. So many cases to take, and many change in laws, make them confuse idiots and make a mockery of many cases. Many of them are drug addicts, alcoholics to reduce stress. Many sick lawyers around and confused lots. Everyday see complaints and demand to win make them sick people seeing sick clients.

So play their lawyers between lawyers blame game and you see lawyers back off and become enemies of themselves. Once the become enmies they fight tooth for tooth with you. Who don't want to protect their own license from suspension if they know you are going after the billing problem? Stuff them with bribe money, upaid GST, tax evasion which they must declare taxable income for their company and personal income. They want good roads and peace security but are not willing to pay their share of taxes to get them.
remember, lawyer need to registered a business company, have a legal practice license, pay GST, pay company and personal taxes to practice law. All businesses are under tax office and pay taxes, and no diff to lawyers just another business people must pay taxable income.
Once they prefer cash and once cash money is pass to them they are dead meat. These vultures are merciless people and make them lose and suspended their legal practice licence is the best option.

understand why u are coming from. THe is no problem with my last lawyer who I can honestly say was is pretty damn decent, if there can ever be such a thing said of lawyers,
