Apparently nothing, other then utter words no Singaporean wants to hear " There is "only so much" Singapore can do to prevent the haze from recurring, Minister for Foreign Affairs K Shanmugam " However, there are many things that the PAP can do. But whether they chose to do so or not, its up to them.

1) Prosecute the singapore based companies identified by the Indonesian govt. that have taken part in the forest burning. The PAP cannot feint ignorance now and claim they don't know who they are. For example one of them is Asian Pulp and Paper. What are they waiting for?

2) Identify the Indonesian companies that are participating in the forest burning. Although they are not based in Singapore, you can bet the major shareholders, upper management, etc of these Indonesian companies fly in and out of Singapore all the time. Arrest them at the airport. Prosecute them in a singapore court. Make an example of some of them. See if the rest of them in Indonesia would play ball after this.

3) See if any of these Indonesian companies have assets and bank accounts in SIngapore. Freeze them. Seize them as compensation. The PAP kangaroo parliament are very on the ball to past new laws and even make them retroactive.

4) Ban all visitors and work permit holders from traveling to singapore or working in singapore that are from these regions where the fires were started. They may not have been responsible for starting any fires. But they know people who did. SOme where along the line, one of their friends or relatives participated in this forest burning crap. Its time the whole region got punished.

Indonesia should have a bounty system or something like a crime stopper type system. Maybe funded by singapore. Report or apprehend a fire starter, even if you are a vigilante, and get a monetary reward. I am sure there are many more things the PAP can do. But, they are not.

Re: Haze: Desperate times call for Desperate Measures. What is the PAP prepared to do

the better, more practical and more reliable design is to have smaller domes over new towns and hdb estates and interconnect them with glass-covered roadways and mrt lines. this way, you can keep the haze out and sinkie flatulence and methane discharges in, plus plenty of air-conditioning within each dome. can even have fake snow and winter events.

The Dome will only cover important places like the Istana, Oxley Rise, Parliament, Lee and lee, etc. Peasants can live outside these domed enclaves and breath shit for air.

those of peasant stock and coolie pay can eat shit and die. not being far-fetched, bugis junction has a limited example of what can be done with air-conditioning and keeping both rain and pollutants out.

In singapore, HDB flats are not designed to be air tight, like US residential building codes. In the US, houses are build to prevent heat loss in the winter and build with good insulation. HDB flat is like a sieve, pollutants will come in and the whole flat smells like smoke. If u have a central aircon condo unit, maybe u don't smell it.

new homes are well insulated with fiberglass material in the attic and walls plus windows are double-paned, exterior-facing doors are well sealed and exhaust chimneys hinged-covered. older victorian-era homes are not that well insulated and windows have single panes. i have both types of homes, and energy cost on the older homes is much higher. i normally "crack" at least a window in winter to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

never rent to ah neh. they seal up the home from inside and infuse their strong spice, vapor and oil into everything indoors, especially carpet, upholstery, bedding, curtains and clothes. fortunately, there are exhaust vents in the roof with either hinged covers or cones to allow carbon impurities, namely carbon dioxide and monoxide, to escape and some oxygen from outside air to seep in. otherwise, too many ah neh bodies would have to be recovered from totally enclosed homes. :eek:

Typical PAP shit. Went you criticize the PAP they tell you to go and form the govt. No problem. Give me the salaries, resources and the benefits that the PAP are getting right now, and I will form the govt tomorrow. Until then, fuck off and eat shit.

Re: Haze: Desperate times call for Desperate Measures. What is the PAP prepared to do

Its no point in sending water bombers and what not. Its better for Singapore to request a SAF detachment of drones to operate in that area. Drones overflying the area 24/7 can identify started fires immediately and even track the culprits. SAF has the largest drone fleet in the region and are one of the longest and most experienced operators of drones. They are economical to operate unlike water bombers, have a small crew and are minimally invasive to the locals. Why the PAP don't propose this instead? Shan too stupid maybe?

Re: Haze: Desperate times call for Desperate Measures. What is the PAP prepared to do

Ongoing investigations by NEA have indicated that the haze may have been related to fires in lands held via concessions by four Indonesian companies, namely:

1. PT Rimba Hutani Mas;
2. PT Sebangun Bumi Andalas Wood Industries;
3. PT Bumi Sriwijaya Sentosa; and
4. PT Wachyuni Mandira.

NEA has sent Preventive Measure Notices under Section 9 of the THPA to these four companies, requesting them to carry out the following:
1. Deploy fire-fighting personnel to extinguish or prevent the spread of any fire on land owned or occupied by them;
2. Discontinue, or not to commence, any burning activities on such land;
3. Submit to NEA any plan of action to extinguish any fire on such land or to prevent its recurrence.

In addition, NEA has served on Asia Pulp & Paper Company Ltd in Singapore (APP) a notice under Section 10 of the THPA, seeking information from APP on its subsidiaries in Singapore and Indonesia, as well as measures taken by its suppliers in Indonesia to put out fires in their concessions.

NEA has also written to the Indonesian authorities yesterday to request for the names of errant companies responsible for causing fires and the resultant transboundary haze. The information will be relevant for NEA's investigations.
NEA will share more information when available.

The Singapore government is currently examining how to apply more economic pressure against errant companies. Where possible, we will share the results of our investigations with the public, particularly because the THPA makes errant companies liable for civil claims.

The Government will review its procurement process to promote green procurement. For example, we look into how we can support companies which are recognised by their industry or by international bodies to have instituted sustainable practices. As far as possible, this should take into account the practices of their suppliers further down the supply chain to ensure that they meet social and environmental standards.

We will therefore expect companies to be more transparent about their supply chains, particularly those involved in the palm oil and forestry sectors. Ultimately, errant companies must know that there is a price to be paid for damaging our health, environment and economy.

NEW YORK - Indonesia's Vice-President Jusuf Kalla has reiterated that Indonesia need not apologise to neighbouring countries over haze from forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan.

Indonesia only needs to ensure forest fires that cause haze do not recur, he was quoted as saying on Indonesian news site kompas.com.

"Look at how long they have enjoyed fresh air from our green environment and forests when there were no fires. Could be months. Are they grateful? But when forest fires occur, a month at the most, haze pollutes their regions. So why should there be an apology?" he said during a dialogue session with Indonesians in New York at the Indonesian Consulate-General on Thursday.

Sinkapore is going underground. The multi-tier underground city of the future is being planned as we speak. It will be the world's first in many respect - first underground city to accommodate 9 million people, first underground city to allocate living areas based on status (first layer goes to the PAP elites, second layer goes to the talented foreigners, third tier to foreigners and fourth level to sinkees.

mr lee kuan yew had foreseen this long time ago.

Fresh air comes from Indonesia... you all must be grateful. Because you weren't grateful for what we give you, why should I apologize when the air is bad ?

Never argue with an idiot because he will drag you down to his level.

In his Facebook statement, Shanmugan spoke out against Indonesian leaders who made light of the problem which has long strained relations among the neighbors, including Malaysia. He wrote, "How is it possible for senior people in government to issue such statements, without any regard for their people, or ours, and without any embarrassment, or sense of responsibility?"

Shanmugan did not identify the officials, but Indonesian Vice-President Jusuf Kalla has made waves in recent weeks by repeating comments he made in March that Indonesia's neighbours should be grateful for good air quality most of the year.Warning that the Singapore government would not hesitate to take action against companies found to be contributing to the haze problem, Shanmugan continued. "The Singapore government takes the matter seriously. We stand ready to assist Indonesia in combatting the fires.

Last year, we introduced legislation to allow us to prosecute companies found to be causing or contributing to the haze. And we will not hesitate to take such actions against those errant companies,"Thick haze has clouded the country for about 3 weeks. This year's smog is the worst such episode since mid-2013 even though the haze plagues the region every year during the burning-off season.The Singapore government's decision to close primary and secondary schools for a day is unprecedented, says English daily the Straits Times.

This comes after the air quality index breached 300, which is considered "hazardous".- More at AllSingaporeStuff.com http://www.allsingaporestuff.com/ar...hanmugam-slams-shocking-indonesian-statements FB: http://fb.com/allsgstuff - See more at: http://www.allsingaporestuff.com/ar...ng-indonesian-statements#sthash.oYK9grrL.dpuf

Shamu is all talk, no action. He wouldn't dare to prosecute a Temasick company. Temasick companies are benefitting in every way; they caused the haze, they sell the masks to sinkees and they own hospitals that sinkees will be going to. Temasick can't thrive outside sinkapore but does very well in sinkapore.
