GE2015 = How and why my family swung our votes.

So, PAP did it right this time. They won the hearts and minds of the middle class swing voters.

Fuck those who said it was the effect of new citizens. The truth of the matter is, the middle ground was sweet in 2011 when housing, education, CPF was a huge concern with skyrocketing costs of living and the worry of those who extrapolated their children's future only to be dismayed by wait would await them should it have went on.

The middle ground blessed WP in 2011 with 1 SMC and 1 GRC, and 2 more by-elections, hoping against hope that WP would stand up for Singaporeans in Parliament and raise issues that concerned them the most.

Instead, WP chose to remain largely silent on taking up the mantle of national opposition and instead chose to hunker down to local (GRC) municipal issues and just content with the usual walkabouts.

Clearly, what used to be good enough when WP ruled a fifedom in Hougang was not sufficient as a party whose Singaporean's pinned their hopes on.

Their silence was deafening, if not painful, for the middle ground. Instead, opposition politics then took on "niche" agendas. From 2011, we had initially massive influx of gay issues brought about by the High Priest of Buttfucking Vincent W, penetrating (yes pun intended) cyberspace with wild claims that participating in unnatural sex was a human right, and thus those who could not accept going against the law of nature (ironic, isn't it), were bigoted, racist, and very likely closet homos themselves.

Little did they see that by their enthusiasm to act take up arms for unnatural sex, the middle ground began to question; Our elected opposition is so silent, and yet these niches seemed to be more self absorbed with sexual gratification and seemly aimed towards undermining the family unit.

Many like me, prayed, hoped that our case would be heard and fought for by WP in parliament, the rising cost of living, our children's future as Singaporeans, our jobs, how we could enhance our quality of living with our families without having to work as wage slaves with hardly any time for them.

Seriously, we didn't even have time to indulge in philosophical debates on how beautiful and liberating it must be to lick cunts and fuck butts because the vocal minority said it was a basic human right.

We cheered Gilbert Goh for bringing up the fight for us losing our jobs to FTs, we liked Roy Ngerg and HHH initially for their gumption and questioning CPF.

We tore down Pinoys who would diss Singapore, we cooked curry to stand up for our Indian bros and sisters to piss off the Ah Tiongs who dared question our national cuisine, we heaped scorn and brought down to their knees those who mocked Singapore.

Then Roy Ngerg got seduced by foreigners, blabbing his mouth to outsiders, dissing our country. The Ang Mohs feigned concern, made a few motherhood statement on the state of Singapore, but they all knew full well how fucked up they were themselves and could not hold a candle to Singapore.

Anyone with experience working with Ang Moh's know that while they may be able to choose and speak words that can resonate with an audience, it is but the very very few who can bring about change due to the very check and balances within their own political systems.

Therefore, Roy Ngerg was and still is, A Traitor.

And all this while, not even a whimper from WP, who sat quietly on their throne donated by the national middle ground in GE2011, thinking all's well if we just keep Aljunied streets clean, attend a couple more funerals, organise a few local pasar malams...

HHH then went off in a tangent. The unattractive, malnourished spinster, with a face only a mother could love, felt that she had nothing else better to do and love than to become a picketing specialist. Protest after protest she organised only served to de-sensitise Singaporeans to her cause; A small sideshow with same shit, different story.

One could easily surmise that she did what she did due to the side effects of anorexia/bulimia that somehow triggered a premature onset of menopause and thus bringing forth a mild form of feminazism.

Then we have M. Ravi, promising lawyer back in 2009, took up causes that gave him prime time exposure. Looked to be on a trajectory and presence to that of JBJ, but then, one day...

He forgot to take his meds.

Not that the middle ground discriminates those with medical conditions, but the middle needed a voice to be consistent in his message, to be there for them, to know they can rely on the voice.

Not some one who one day could speak so eloquently to defend the hopeless in court, and then the next day start prancing half naked in protest in the middle of town to denounce his allies.

And when all these causes they took up started to gel into a single banner of "Human Rights" (Homosexuality, Workers Equality, Wage Equity, etc.), the middle ground instinctively knew then that they needed to look somewhere else for a consistent message, a common belief, something that would resonate with their concerns of family, children's future, jobs and housing.

Yes, those are the "new" bread-and-butter issues that the middle wanted so badly to look for a champion.

And all this while, not even a whimper from WP, who sat quietly on their throne donated by the national middle ground in GE2011, thinking all's well if we just keep Aljunied streets clean, attend a couple more funerals, organise a few local pasar malams...

They thought that all they had to do was to present PAP will a target so small that they would not be disturbed. Problem was, it was just ONE small target against the 1000s of rabid PAP RC, PA porlanpars and grasslooters guns. As WP had no other card to play besides being a oh-so-friendly neighbourhood MP, PAP trained their dogs to charge in to find that one needle in a haystack.

Nevermind how big the haystack would be, they had enough dogs to sick onto the haystack and keep WP occupied while they rolled out the pork barrel.

Then came the death of LKY.

And then came Amos Yee.

The middle ground lost a man whom they had grown up with all their lives, they were those who were never born under a different flag, never sang another anthem, descended from those who had been at LKY's side when he promised he would make SG the promised land for their children.

The middle ground saw how their parents grieved for LKY; The middle ground saw the older generation's stoicism melted away overnight as their parents, now mostly frail and infirm, shamed the middle ground with stories of how the almost written-off, discarded, unwanted little dot had to endure violence, curfews, racial hatred and the indignity of being placed in the same basket case of commonwealth countries, many of whom are still in the 3rd world.

Suddenly, our rebellious streaks since early adulthood or teenagehood when we celebrated CSJ coming into the limelight, curse and swore with our new-found political awakening in soc.singapore.culture, CST's epitome of opposition leadership in 91', mockery of GCT's ascension to PM, rabid anger at JBJ's persecution, all paled in comparison as we realised the relative comfort we had always been enjoying whist tearing down the government.

We, the middle ground, began to LISTEN to our parent's political point of view, FOR ONCE.

That was the emotional tipping point for me. I realised that yes, even though I HATED LKY for the Singapore we have now, I could not but thank him for the Singapore he brought us to.

Such is how knowledge, when tempered with humility and the lessons learned, becomes wisdom.

Then the fucking little prick Amos Yee had to show up and curse a dead man.

As the middle ground, I could only look in horror as even I had been served humble pie for my political radicalism, here was a kid, utterly spoiled by his parents, spewed poison upon poison laced with vitriol and hatred.

He may be smart, he may be well informed, but he utterly lacked wisdom.

Then the clown parties started to endorse him, the "human rights" activists embraced him....he supported gay love, he hated PAP, never mind he thinks education is a waste of time, nevermind he mocked the very Samaritans who tried to help him....They all felt that He must become our national icon.

And all this while, not even a whimper from WP, who sat quietly on their throne donated by the national middle ground in GE2011, thinking all's well if we just keep Aljunied streets clean, attend a couple more funerals, organise a few local pasar malams...

So, who do you think my cousins, brothers and sisters and in-laws, all born in the late 60s to early 80s voted for this time in the elections? 2 votes in Jalan Besar, 10 votes in Sengkang, 17 in East Coast, 2 in Tanjong Pagar.

Obvious, isn't it?

TS MadrigalWheel expresses an interesting viewpoint-of opposition supporters/sympathisers disillusioned by the lack of fire shown by the WP in parliament while falling into the pappy trap of being bog down by town maintenance issues. I have often lamented in this forum the almost polite and cordial behaviour of the WP in parliament and esp the low profile of international lawyer Chen Show Mao. Roy, Amos and to a lesser extent HHH seems to be more willing to take on the incumbent and speak up more for the ordinary folks despite being individuals without the backing of a party machinery and the mandate of the people of Aljuneid, Hougang, Punngol East and 50% of locals (60%-10% new citizens)

However this is but a short term view often adopted by locals.
The long term future must lie in a democratic system based on free and fair elections ,where people have the right to gather, organise, protest and speak up freely without being intimidated by lawsuits and imprisonment. Political emancipation must come before material gains and this is where people here has got it wrong.
I rather have less wealth and more freedom while many sinkies seems to prefer to sell their freedom for a few more dollars.

Since when did it happened? I learnt my lesson the hard way!!
... Let me share my personal experience with all. When my late son passed on, my MP send a Chinese funeral blanket when he was given a Catholic funeral.
MOD send me a condolences letter with my name spelled wrongly.
During the wake, I was given assurance that all assistance will be rendered to obtain answer on my son's death due to negligence of the army personnel as stated by MOD. When I requested to see her, i was told to attend the meet the MP session till my brother made an issue, we got to see her. Till to date, I still don't have a closure.
After my late son's funeral, I received a condolences card from my MP. To my horror, the wonderful son that she was describing was my younger son (he is alive and kicking). This show how sincere n empathy your MP are.
When we realised we were not getting any outcome from this MP, my brother n sisters approached other MPs for assistance. The outcome is still the same - only lip services.
One day, there was a walk around by my MP, being a grieving mother that still cannot get a closure I was emotional towards her. Instead, she approached me with finger pointing and threaten me. I wrote an email to the leader of the gang and his response is as good as no response. I wrote again n my email was ignored.
We wrote many emails to PM, cc DPM, what did we get? NO RESPONSE NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT!
I am very curious to ask these people....
WHAT IS THE MEANING OF
WITH YOU
FOR YOU
FOR SINGAPORE
Please judge by yourself...do u really need such people that only provide lip services n abandon you when u are in need!!
Dear Friends, please feel free to share my post. It might be a wake up call.

Sinkies don't care about these lofty idealistic intangibles. They want money or some form of material benefits that can be enjoyed by the five senses. That motivates them.

Many of the new citizens don't care about Spore because eventually they will move on taking with them ALL their CPF. So for them it is all simply about money$$$.
We will be truelly screwed once they make up at least 50% of the population.

A group of people who could care less of what really happens to a country.

When the opposition try to be rational and constructive in Parliament, accuse them of lacking balls and guts. But if they argue too vehemently, accuse them of gangsterism, being disruptive and partisan gridlocking. Hold the opposition to your high standards and teach them a lesson at the polls when they disappoint, but when your PAP MP speaks up once in 4 years, or has less than a 50 percent Parliamentary attendance record, or defends the institutionalized corruption of the PA, the TCs and $2 PAP owned software companies, give them victory margins of 75 percent. You are a useless gutless fucking turncoat, and you, your ilk and your children deserve everything that is coming your way and more. And by fucking God I will be on the mountaintops applauding and laughing my fucking head off when that happens.

Hi, good piece. I can resonate with many of the points in there, especially the part on LGBT. There are many daily and international issues to be managed than worry about the legality on the use of the butt hole.

May the PAP 'blessed' the middle ground with more foreigners, increasing cost of health, more loss of jobs for sinkees and more expensive subsidized housing.

For the OP to believe that the PAP is for them is plain stupidity.

Let the PAP screw them.

Sour grapes loser, its people like you in cyberspace and on the ground that turn the middle ground against the Opposition with your senseless posts

and fucked up behaviour. You still cant accept the loss gracefully and come up with all sorts of fucked up reasons that make no sense and which you cannot verify. Fuckoff with your tail between your legs la.
