PAP saves RP's West Coast Team from disqualification

They had not deleted the words "We are standing as a group of independent candidates" in their declaration before a Commissioner of Oaths. This is against our election laws as you cannot be both independent candidates and party candidates. Our PAP team spotted the error and I informed Mr Kenneth Jeyaratnam of the Reform Party so that they had enough time to correct it. If the error wasn't corrected, we were advised that the Reform Part team would have been disqualified on technical grounds. We the PAP team do not want to win on technicalities. We want to give our West Coast GRC voters a choice and look forward to a fair contest between our PAP team and the Reform Party team. (Photos of error and amendment attached.)

Yes, we should commend Iswaran's chivalry.

But sorry, for the sake of warding of SGs being driven to extinction by the Familee and FAP, we will still vote for RP and other Oppos.

The fault is in the nomination form...it is the same type of form for both GRC and SMC and besides, it is the Election Dept's duty to check for any errors, before accepting it. You mean the Election Dept check for the cashier order for the $14,500 per candidate and does nothing else?

When the form is posted on the notice board between 12 to 12:30pm, the opposing candidates can object to the candidate based on whether the candidate submitted false info or is bankrupted or have unreported criminal offences, something like that and should not be for administrative errors, which the Election dept should screen through and corrected them before posting the form on the notice board.

The Election dept is purposefully allowing such things to happen.
This is irresponsible.

This is not about integrity.

If the form is filled for a certain political party, how then can there be another line which says they are independents?
Obviously the form is confusing and if Election dept is to fault a party, it has to ask itself, why it never check for errors?

Collect deposit it knows, but checking the form, not it's duty? What a joke!

What a freaking joke.

I can do a much better job in the Election dept. The first thing I'll do is to rework the form until no conflicting statements in it.

KNN, a bunch of lazy incompetent staff at the Election dept.

Iswaran was simply at the right place at the right time. He got lucky. He is confident of winning so it doesn't hurt to score some points. In any case, if he wins of technicality, his team will become a laughing stock and everyone will jeer his team for the walkover.

If this is Aljunied GRC, story might be different.

Wow, Iswaran has just become my favourite minister. A real gentlemanly act, which is hard to come by from the PAP these days. Come to think of it, you don't see him dissing WP in parliament, clearly shows he is above that.
