Man jailed for threatening girlfriend, kicking policemen

An unemployed man was jailed six months yesterday for threatening his girlfriend with a knife and kicking two policemen who later tried to restrain him.
Ivan Vincent, 50, admitted to three of seven charges - placing the tip of a kitchen knife on his girlfriend's thigh and threatening to kill her. The other two charges proceeded on were for kicking Station Inspector (SI) Goh Kock Wee and Sergeant Shahril Rashidi Sadli.
On June 25, Vincent told his girlfriend, Ms Siti Rohaini Rose Lee, 30, who was not feeling well, to get up and "find money".
When she continued to lie on her bed, Vincent took a knife from the kitchen, placed its tip on her leg and said: "You better wake up. If you leave me, I will kill you."
She cried. He then punched her in the face. The victim's sister, who had phoned her, heard Vincent shouting and called the police.
At the void deck of the block in Ang Mo Kio, the victim was relating the incident to SI Goh when Vincent began to walk away. The officer advised him to stay put.
Vincent became agitated and started to shout. He was placed under arrest for disorderly behaviour and criminal intimidation. Vincent struggled violently but was finally handcuffed by SI Goh and his partner.
When Sgt Shahril Rashidi arrived, Vincent kicked SI Goh twice on his legs, abused Sgt Shahril and kicked him on his shoulder .
Vincent, who said he still loves his girlfriend, could have been jailed up to two years and/or fined for criminal intimidation.
For causing hurt to a public servant, he could have been jailed up to seven years, fined, caned or received any combined punishment.
