Instead of "Tuesday, August 25, 2015", it was written as "Friday, August 28, 2015". Are these highly paid civil servants overworked?

Re: BREAKING: Singapore Parliament dissolved ahead of General Election
SINGAPORE - Parliament has been dissolved, with all signs pointing to a general election to be called very soon.

President Tony Tan Keng Yam, on the advice of the Prime Minister, announced the dissolution of Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 25).

The next step will be for him to issue the Writ of Election, which signals the start of the general election. The dates for Nomination Day and Polling Day will also be announced.

The dissolution of Parliament, which last sat on Aug 17, comes a month after the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee released its report on July 24.

An estimated 2.46 million eligible voters - up from 2.35 million in 2011 - will head to the polls.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who will be leading the People's Action Party (PAP) into battle for the third time as Prime Minister, had set the scene for the general election when he hinted at it towards the end of his National Day Rally speech last Sunday (Aug 23).

Several possible election dates had been circulating like wildfire in text messages and on social media in recent weeks.

The ruling PAP is currently in the midst of announcing its slate of candidates for the 16 Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs) and 13 Single-Member Constituencies (SMCS) being contested.

Its line-up for 12 GRCs and 11 SMCs has been revealed so far.

Three of the SMCs are new: Bukit Batok, Fengshan and MacPherson. There will be two new GRCs: Jalan Besar and Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC.

Fourteen MPs have announced their retirement, with the PAP introducing 11 new faces - including former Chief of Defence Ng Chee Meng, who will be fielded in Pasir-Punggol GRC - so far.

The number of elected MPs will increase from the current 87 to 89.

The last general election was held on May 7, 2011. The PAP won 81 of the 87 seats contested with a total vote share of 60.1 per cent. The Workers' Party (WP) took Aljunied GRC and Hougang SMC with 54.7 per cent and 64.8 per cent respectively. In a by-election on Jan 26, 2013, it won Punggol East SMC after PAP incumbent Michael Palmer had resigned.

The WP had earlier announced that its existing seven MPs will be defending their seats. It also revealed on July 26 that it would be fielding 28 candidates in five GRCs and five SMCs.

The other eight opposition parties which stated their intention to contest in the general election had concluded talks in early August, during which they ironed out their differences and worked to ensure that the PAP will be challenged in all 29 constituencies.

Thus far, only MacPherson SMC - both the WP and National Solidarity Party (NSP) have staked their claims - and Potong Pasir SMC appear to be heading for three-cornered fights. Independent candidate Tan Lam Siong, the former NSP secretary-general, wants to run in Potong Pasir against the PAP and Singapore People's Party.

PM Lee added during Sunday's rally that Singapore was at a turning point and that the coming election was critical.

"You will be deciding who's governing Singapore for the next five years; but much more than that, you will be choosing the team who will be working with you for the next 15-20 years. You will be setting the direction for Singapore for the next 50 years," he said.

"If you are proud of what we have achieved together, if you support... the future that we are building, then please support me, please support my team, because my team and I cannot do anything just by ourselves.

"We have to do it with you in order to do it for you... so that we can keep Singapore special for many years to come, another 50 years."

This kind of mistake is really unacceptable elsewhere. Has the civil service degenerate to such an extent they can't get a letterhead or their late president's name right?

It is more interesting to find out why this pre-prepared document for release on Fri was suddenly brought forward to be released today that caused the staff to miss amending the header. The poor staff must have been given very short notice to make the changes. Maybe it is the share market. Friday another clash?

The whole farking parleement should be dissolved in concentrated sulphuric acid.

I thought NITRIC ACID would be a better choice given it's much more CORROSIVE in action and definitely will more than 'dissolve' the Parly-men?

As far as I can tell this is what happens when the entire state run machinery, runs on the whims and fancy of ONE person and goes into Kar ran Kar Bok when this ONE person's mood changes from Friday to TODAY! LoLoLoL

What about the guy who signed off the proclamation? Did he read what he was signing off or was he merely going through motion?

Could it be that both the guy who prepared the document and the guy who had to sign the document were looking forward to Friday and the weekend? Talking about good life...

That is too extreme for honest mistake

That entire fucking PAP rotten parliament should be dangled and make to dance to entertain all Singaporeans

This fight is not just your voting for opposition, any opposition against the PAP

Singaporeans must do much more than just relying on their single vote.

UNDER THE FUCKING PAP, SINKIES ARE 4TH CLASS CITIZENS IN THEIR OWN LAND STOLEN FROM THEM BY PAP
PAPs ARE THE 2ND CLASS CITIZENS WITH THE LEE FAMILY AS THE FIRST CLASS ARISTOCRAZIES

FTs ARE TAKEN IN AS THE 3RD CLASS CITIZENS KICKING SINKIES INTO 4TH CLASS AND SINKIES GOOD ONLY TO GO
HEAD DOWN DOWN AND ARSEHOLES UP HIGH HIGH TO BE FUCKED AND TIEWED BY PAPs LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THEIR BANKS.

YOU MUST CANVAS FOR THE OPPOSITION, ANY OPPOSITION , BY TALKING TO YOUR FRIENDS AND THOSE IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD
UNITE ALL OF THEM TO VOTE OUT THE PAP AGAINST THEIR FUCKING FTs THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO PACK IN TO STEAL YOUR FUTURE AND YOUR CHILDREN FUTURE

TALK TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS , AND TO PEOPLE THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW
TELL THEM ALL TO TALK TO THEIR FRIENDS AND EVEN TO PEOPLE THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW

LET US REGAIN BACK OUR SINGAPORE FROM THE STINKAPORE THE PAPs ARE CREATING AT THE EXPENSE OF ALL OF US

STOP THE FUCKING PAPs FROM LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THEIR FUCKING BANKS AND BACK FROM THEIR FUCKING BANKS

Okay lah, nothing catastrophic. At least the names were spelled correctly.

Also, that's not a typo error.

I reiterate that proofreading is a dying art, the younger generation probably doesn't have the patience or the sustained focus to do it competently. Overly relying on technology e.g. spellcheck makes you stupid, just like using a calculator diminishes your skill for mental calculations.
