The materialist folks and those who think Buddha is some deity/god will never understand this.

wrong,in order to become buddha u must endure a lifetime of wrongs and injustice and must be beaten savagely to the brink of death and lie in a coma for
30 days and nights before u can arise as buddha's disciple and weild the power of the buddha palm.

Who says Buddhists worship a wooden statue? If anything the Buddhists are a lot less superstitious than many Christians.
