Two former senior ST Marine executives charged with corruption

SINGAPORE - Two former Singapore Technologies (ST) Marine senior executives were charged in court with corruption on Wednesday.
Former ST Marine president of commercial business Tan Mong Seng, 63, is accused of one count of conspiring with former president See Leong Teck, Han Yew Kwang and former senior vice-president Mok Kim Whang between 2004 and 2010 to corruptly give a $43,721 bribe to one Pyo Sei Jin, an agent of Hyundai Engineering and Construction, in return for granting ship repair contracts to ST Marine.
Han, 58, a former ST Marine chief operating officer, was charged with eight counts of conspiracy to corruptly give bribes to agents of ST Marine's customers, amounting to $790,772.00, between 2004 and 2009.
The latest charges against the two men bring the number of former ST Marine senior executives charged to seven.
Tan's lawyer, Senior Counsel N. Sreenivasan, applied for his client to leave jurisdiction. Tan's bail was increased by another $70,000 to $220,000.
Han told the court he wished to engage a lawyer.
His $150,000 bail has been extended.
Both men's cases have been fixed for July 9 for a pre-trial conference, together with the others.
If convicted, the two men can each be fined up to $100,000 and jailed for up to five years.
