[h=1]A SINGAPOREAN WAS ONCE JAILED 1 YEAR FOR HAVING FAKE DEGREES[/h]
Post date:

With the revelation that there is a worker in IDA with a fake degree, it is concerning that IDA seems to be disinterested in doing anything about it.

Since then, netizens have also continued to dig up further examples of people who are apparently working here with fake qualifications.

For those, like Former NMP Calvin Cheng, who believe that buying a degree is not actually that bad, you are wrong.

There was a case in Jan 2013 where a Singaporean man desperate for a job was jailed for 1 year for buying several fake degrees and using them to secure jobs.

34 year old Yeo Cheng San was jailed 1 year for buying fake degrees. He had bought a Bachelor's degree, a Masters degree and a Post-Graduate Diploma for over $8,000 from a university in Florida, USA. He was then able to secure a job earning up to $12,800 a month despite only having an O level qualification.

In another case, 25 foreign talents were also jailed for having fake degrees and using them to secure work passes after MOM discovered the fakes.

In this case, 25 Foreign Talents from Myanmar, India and the Philippines pleaded guilty to using fake degrees to obtain work passes in Singapore and were sentenced to 4 to 12 weeks jail each.
The MOM issued 20 S Passes and 5 EPs to the 25 FTs with fake degrees between November 2012 and June 2013.

The MOM later discovered that the degrees were fake after doing some additional checks with the foreign institutions that the degrees were supposedly from.
Given that there have clearly been prosecutions in the past, it is wrong to suggest that buying a degree is not that bad.

Is there a double standard being held when some people are jailed for having fake degrees while others are defended by government agencies?

When will IDA take action?

What the fcuk is there for IDA to investigate in the current case?
The evidence is all there, the woman has admitted it, the HR dept has said it is irrelevant.
The only thing left to investigate, is, really, how dumb the IDA has been, and continues to be
dumb in their responses and in so doing, painted themselves in a corner.

So here's the trick to become successful in Singapore.

First, you renounce your citizenship and migrate to some backwater country where it is easy to get into.

Then you go online and buy some fake degrees.

Then you come back to Singapore to work.

Guarantee you will be treated better than you were before! And if found out, they won't care if your degrees fake! Good, right?

A police report needs to be made for Ms Ah Neh to be charged?

Glad that the sinkie charlatan was jailed for having fake degrees. A sinkie with a fake degree would be depriving all other suitable candidates, including foreign talents, of a well-paying PMET job. Companies deserve to have the best talents, especially foreign talents, since foreigners will provide valuable networking connections when the company wishes to venture overseas.

.................8,000 Chinese students were expelled from American universities last year alone – and the main reasons were poor grades and cheating...................

reports that federal prosecutors in Pittsburgh have indicted 15 Chinese citizens for allegedly taking part in a college exam scheme.

...... their image has changed completely — wealthy kids who cheat,” said Chen Hang, chief development officer at WholeRen, which is based in Pittsburgh, Pa.................
in reality they are not always prepared to study in highly-competitive programs, said Mr. Chen. More than half of the Chinese students expelled were from top 100 U.S. universities, the survey found. Cheating at exams, plagiarism and finding other students to write papers for them were frequently cited as the specific causes of expulsion, the survey showed.

In a commentary based on the survey, the state-run Guangming Daily said that the fact that thousands of students were expelled was not surprising given the large numbers of students in the U.S. It added that different education standards and different attitudes toward unacceptable behavior were partly to blame.

It also said the problem wasn’t just with Chinese students that chose to go to the U.S. “This is an issue not just about students in the U.S., but about the entire higher-education system in China,” said the unsigned commentary.

Yeo Cheng San should not have gone to jail. The HR who employed him should have been the one serving the jail sentence.

There should be a law to punish HR who employs fake degree holders. Then their eyes will open.
