BEIJING - China will hold a military parade this year to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two, and invite the leaders of major countries involved in the war to attend, the foreign ministry said, events probably aimed at Japan.

Sino-Japan relations have long been poisoned by what China sees as Japan's failure to atone for its occupation of parts of the country before and during the war, and Beijing rarely misses an opportunity to remind its people and the world of this.

In the last two years ties have also deteriorated sharply because of a dispute over a chain of uninhabited islets in the East China Sea, though Chinese and Japanese leaders met last year in the capital, Beijing, to try and reset relations.

President Xi Jinping will oversee events including the military parade, a reception and an evening gala, China's Foreign Ministry said in a statement late on Monday.

Besides the leaders of major participants, China will also invite those of other countries in the region, the ministry said, but did not name the countries.

Guests will also include the heads of the United Nations and other international bodies, as well as people who helped China win the war. "We hope these commemorative activities will help remind all kind-hearted people of the aspiration and pursuit for peace, make them work together to prevent a repetition of this historical tragedy and safeguard the outcomes of World War Two,"the ministry said.

The Chinese people "made a huge sacrifice" in the war, it added.

The military parade, likely to be held in September, will be Xi's first since he took over as Communist Party and military chief in late 2012 and as state president in early 2013.

Troops are already drilling in secret on the outskirts of Beijing for the event, sources have told Reuters.

do something about the opium war.

Must warn and shamed evil British of the atrocity against China and the East Asians countries for tie illegal drug trades.

China had pay to UK$60M for the damaged to the 8 countries attacked China 八国联军.

$60M sent Chinese broke to pay the debt in the 1900s period and the Evil White took opportunity to brand Chines and CHina are poor peasant country.

Time to get back at these 8 allied attack China for their evil doing to Chinese.

Xi Jin Ping got the correct Priority.

Whack the Japs dead first.

You silly go about 八国联军 at this time, that INCLUDES RUSSIA which is a current ALLY. ??!!

No way!

HK have to be dealt with heavy-handedly for stiring up political challenges and acting for the interest of British. Do that will make the Brits feel the heat. UK is too far away for a real war with. Take the Japs first. If US & UK want to come to Japan to join the war then bleed them dead as well.

Chinese people should always be grateful to Chiang Kai Shek for defeating the Japanese invasion then. Chiang was the only leader capable of holding fragmented China together, torn apart by warlords authority, against the Japanese invasion. if there was no Chiang, China would certainly be conquered by Japan then, and 400 millions Chinese people would be enslaved by the Japanese for god knows how long. Chiang Kai Shek was truly a great national hero in Chinese history.

Chiang KS's contribution is very little. He can not beat the Japs and he is always fearful of Japs. Why?

His very foundation of military trainings was in a military school in Japan. That was the basic reason why KMT Party and Sun Yat Sen selected him to be the head of first headmaster of Chinese military schoo黄埔军校l, and that was how he came to power.

CKS is coward when he encounter fighting against Japs because Japs were his military teacher and he was their student. 徒弟不可以打师父。

you are probably deceived by the Communist lies. the Communist propaganda against Chiang and the KMT were simply too skillful and effective then. it is really regrettable that there are simply too much lies, untruths, misinformation and disinformation against Chiang and the KMT in China till today. Chiang must be the most misunderstood and unfairly maligned leader of China in 5000 years of Chinese history. Chiang saved China from the Japanese invasion, based on that great merit alone, it outweighs all of his so-called sins or misdeeds for me. Chiang Kai Shek was a true Chinese patriot and great hero.

If LKY dies, he should be buried at the Yasukuni shrine for his contributions to the Imperial Japanese Empire.
