A 54-year-old man was tasered by a police officer and arrested after he allegedly threatened passers-by with a weapon at a coffeeshop in Toa Payoh Central on Monday evening, Feb 23.
A contributor to citizen journalism website Stomp saw police officers tasering a man who was allegedly threatening people with a parang at a coffeshop in Toa Payoh Central Block 78C, at 11pm on Monday.
A police spokesperson clarified that a 54-year-old man was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon, and was taken to hospital after the incident.

He said: "A man was carrying a parang (weapon) and was about to attack another man."
"The other man can be seen picking up a chair to defend himself. He was eventually tasered by a policeman as he threatened passers-by with his weapon.
"The police officers picked him up after this and moved him to a different spot, away from the commotion."
A police spokesperson said: "Police received a call on Feb 23, at 11.33pm, requesting for assistance at Block 78C, Toa Payoh Central.
"Upon police arrival, a 54-year-old man was arrested for possession of offensive weapon.
"The man was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
"Police investigations are ongoing."

Maybe he was not happy, his petrol cost gone up 20cts, soon he can't drink outside after 10.30pm & jubilee year he got only $600....& he just checked his CPF withdrawal next year..only $5,000 the rest, he has to wait until 67....that is why the parang!... ha ha ha
