To the MP of Bukit Batok town council : You might not be aware, but living in our estate has become quite unbearable. Here are a list of the issues that we face. We hope you will take the time to read and address these issues. Thank you,
Joseph Lefort,
bukit batok resident
NOISE POLLUTION
a Noisy garang gunis blaring their horns throughout the day . If the Workers Party can ban the use of horn by garang gunis, why cant the PAP?
b. noisy hand held & motorised grass cutting machines. No regulation to control noise pollution from these machines
c. noisy de greazing vehicles, & other machines allowed by town council
PEST PROBLEM
a. policy of fogging in rubbish chutes which drive cockroaches & pests into resident's units
INVASION OF PRIVACY
a. allowing vendors to place flyers on gates, doors & inside resident's units- this policy opens up a host of other problems
b. not taking action on vendors which place stickers on public property. This issue was highlighted in the Sunday Times on May 12
CARRYING OUT QUESTIONABLE "UPGRADING' WORKS
We lived through an extremely difficult period a few years ago when the drains in our estate was broken . What was puzzling was that we found nothing wrong with the drains. They were perfectly allright. Town councils should carry out such heavy & noisy works only if they have a compelling reason to do so. Can the Bukit Batok town council provide a report on the amount of money spent and the rationale for breaking these perfectly good drains & pavements
DIRTY HAWKER CENTRES
a. hawker centres are cramped, dirty and sweaty . ( no wonder foreigners look down on us - we dont know how dirty it is because we have gotten used to it ) . As the picture here shows, we eat right next to rubbish bins.
NO 'MINISTRY OF PEACE' FOR THE RESIDENTS
From our observation, there isnt any policy in place to look after the peace of the residents when it comes to pollution ( noise and otherwise ) when :
<ins id="aswift_1_expand" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: currentColor; width: 336px; height: 280px; display: inline-table; visibility: visible; position: relative; background-color: transparent; border-image: none;"><ins id="aswift_1_anchor" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: currentColor; width: 336px; height: 280px; display: block; visibility: visible; position: relative; background-color: transparent; border-image: none;"><iframe name="aswift_1" width="336" height="280" id="aswift_1" frameBorder="0" marginWidth="0" marginHeight="0" scrolling="no" vspace="0" hspace="0" allowfullscreen="true" style="left: 0px; top: 0px; position: absolute;" allowTransparency="true"></iframe></ins></ins>
a) regular maintenance is carried out
b) in the selection of products & services that are essential for our estates
ERODING OF GREEN SPACES
It seems that every solution to a problem is to replace green spaces with concrete spaces. This of course done in the name of development. What will happen if the population is further increased as the govt has planned to do ?
LACK OF CHARACTER
a. HDB estates are an eyesore. They are the same everywhere with void decks, similar HDB retails outlets, coffee shos & hawker centres. Why can we not have zones similar to Rail Mall, Holland Village or Sunset Way ? The latter two are in HDB estates.
