The Housing and Development Board (HDB) announced today that it will be installing the Electronic Parking System (EPS) at 300 more HDB carparks by the first half of next year.

There are currently 1,800 HDB carparks in Singapore. 610 are already installed with the EPS. By the middle of next year, half of them would have it installed.
"The EPS has proven to be convenient to motorists and effective in regulating parking demand, particularly at popular carparks with higher short-term parking demand," HDB said.

HDB also said that there will be an enhanced version of the EPS. The old EPS system only allocates a fixed number of lots to visitors and leaves the remaining for residents. The new EPS system allow season parking ticket holders to fully utilise the lots.

To do so, the number of available lots during the prescribed non-peak hours for visitors will be increased, when season parking ticket holders are out in the day.
The number of lots available for visitors will then be reduced in the evening.

The enhanced EPS has already been installed at 440 carparks in Toa Payoh Central, Bukit Batok Central and Bedok Central.
HDB also said that it launched a mobile application in July this year. The app, Mobile@HDB, lets motorists know how many available lots there are in EPS-equipped HDB carparks, and also the nearest HDB carpark within 400m of their current location.
"To take a step further in sharing real-time car park lot availability information with all, HDB has made the car park and parking lot availability information to the public via public data sharing portals, Data.gov.sg from 15 Dec 2014. This will also facilitate private system developers who wish to incorporate such car park information into their developed applications (e.g. mobile applications), which will benefit all motorists," it said.

HAHAHA ! Hosay, this can prevent all the cheapo car park coupon cheaters.

Heard that this EPS can be quite a pain, just this late morning, the system went kuku at Tampines St11 round market car park, held up the traffic for over 30 minutes, folks honking all over the shop.

As with any PAP government scheme, we will end up paying more in one way or the other.

One step forward, two steps back. SG50 'progress'. Some crony selling the electronic parking system must be laughing to the bank.

shiok! sg rush to madness needs to slow down a little.

When the carpark gantry only allow season parking holders to enter, but a visitor's car come and the gantry refuse to open and if behind the car got long queue, how to reverse? Jam...

Effective in regulating parking demands?

Knowing that with electronics means each and every carpark so controlled can and will know how many lots are there in each car park, how many cars had entered and how many cars have existed.

The electronic carpark still allows cars to enter these carparks knowing there aren't any lots availiable and these cars park anyhow causing obstruction.

Now that's a typical ' rent seeking economic slut based mentality' of the PAP.

I collect money first but whether you can find a lot to park your car....IS YOUR OWN FREAKING BUSINESS!! LOL

In my case something went wrong with my cash card & I had to reverse but there were other cars behind:o

May not be the cash card but their reader. Haig rd car park, Kanna twice (goes there often for the goat rib soup at the market along Geylang road). Have to do 3 point turn because cars behind. Went to the back of the queue and then nothing wrong on the next try. Only difference was parking charge increase by 10 cents which is ok. It is doing the 3 point turn that is the frustrating part.

I always display coupon even in EPS carpark. So use to the manual system. Yet cannot get refund. But if forget put coupon kana fine. Fu...k u HDB...

Well done! This will put a stop to all drivers who cheat on their parking coupons.
