The original Phoenix hotel was in the same building behind John Little. I also though that it was demolished but if you google the hotel is still around. I don't frequent that area nowadays so I am assuming that it is the same hotel.

There is was only 1 TBG. Nearby was the Red building which was a bakery.
Is the broken down red building at Katong the famous bakery?
The story I heard was that the Cockpit building was in a sensitive area. They were afraid that a sniper could use it to get at the people living in the Istana.
The same thing with the residential buildings along Cavenagh Rod. Those living along cavenagh Rd had to brick the side facing the Istana. Don't know what happened to the Cockpit because looking at the map it has become I think "Visioncrest Residence" probably an expensive condo

Been a long time since I have been there so not sure that today it is broken down. However I read that it was closed a year or two ago.

No. Like all the other places People's Park, Orchard Rd,.. they are now only memories. The PAP has destroyed many of these places so it makes it easier for me to move on to.... haven't decided yet.

All I can say is our good ole PAP are bankrupt of ideas, build a shitload of shopping malls, and becoz they jacked the price of land so high, the rental is sky high and the tenants are all the big retailers who have an outlet at every mall with good traffic. These days, you go Tampines, Boon Lay or Orchard, 80% of the tenants are the same. And don't get me started on the shit food served at the food courts which displaces the coffeeshops, these days you are more likely to get food poisoning than a nice tasting meal when you eat there.
We are following the exact same footsteps as the US of A, from a manufacturing powerhouse to a service based economy, and getting fucked by other countries. We don't have any natural resources, nor the necessary innovation amongst our human capital to create future drivers for growth. Building casinos, big spanking billion dollar parks and shopping centres won't drive growth when no one decides to visit them. And let's face it, it is only a matter of time before the other Asian countries, M'sia, Indon, Vietnam directly competes with us. If we continue under the PAP governance, we can be assured that when that day comes, they'll do their usual song and dance, do a little wayang and remind us to stay the fuck out of our own retirement funds.

I share the exact same thoughts as you. That's why I worry for SG. Do other Singaporeans share our concerns and can they see the dangers ahead for SG.

When the two casinos were awarded to MBS and RWS, the understanding was that they will hv exclusivity for 10years. We can expect pap to give new licences after that 10yrs.
But we know that casinos are not good for Singapore
