Lawyer M Ravi could be fined $7,000 for professional misconduct.

Mr Ravi is going to be fined for sending out court documents and sending out media statements to the press before submitting them on the Attorney-General.
Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon had appointed a disciplinary tribunal to investigate Ravi in March this year. Counsel Giam Chin Toon and lawyer Gina Lee-Wan are also on the tribunal.

Mr Ravi was also asked by the tribunal to pay $3,000 in costs to the Law Society.

The fine comes after the Attorney-General (AGC) complained to the Law Society about Mr Ravi. Thereafter, the Law Society applied to Chief Justice Menon for the tribunal.

The Law Society was represented by Senior Counsel Andre Yeap, charged that over the period of five months from August to December last year, Mr Ravi had released court papers and emailed media statements to the press, with the intention to meddle with the cases.

Mr Ravi has pleaded guilty to all of the seven charges levied against him and promised not to commit the same conduct again. The tribunal had recommended a $1,000 fine for each charge, for a total of $7,000.
He also sent out a media statement to apologise.

The tribunal accepted Ravi’s guilty plea about his “over-enthusiasm” in representing his clients and thus unwittingly overstepped the line".
The tribunal's recommendation will now be considered by the Law Society.

Who is paying for the fine?

Don't worry all because he is a shit skin + he's fighting for you know roy and hhh he won't really be chided by the public even though he sent the letter wrongly to the wrong department.

I recall that one of my lawyer friends' firm acted as legal counsel for Teo S.L. (re: ISD matter), and their firm was apparently not white listed.

More PAP fixing going on? Fix the oppos lawyers and send a message to all lawyers who might consider to defending oppos in the future? I thought court papers are public domain. Unless the Singapore justice system conducts all court cases in secrecy, every thing transcribed by the court clerk should be common knowledge. Therefore, how can the AG say that these papers were not submitted to them. They have copies of it, or they have the ability to easily obtain copies of it. If these papers were pertaining to Ravi's tactic to defend Roy, than they should be with the lawyer and not revealed to the AG anyway. In any case, its not a crime to email statements to the media. Like what the fuck, the prosecutor can talk to the press but the defendant's lawyer cannot? How can a defendant meddle in the case when the whole thing is held in a kangaroo court? The whole system of using 3 judges instead of a jury is so that no one can meddle with the case by screwing with the jury, Is the AG asserting that the 3 judges are so easily influenced that Ravi's actions would be considered meddling? What a joke of a system.

There is no real justice in Singapore. Justice is in your favour if you are with the right political group, money group, or relatives group. If you are not one of this privileged, you will receive no justice.
