According to the 2014 SME Development Survey, half of local SMEs don’t think they need to increase productivity yet.

While 51% of businesses said that they plan to make productivity improvements through rethinking their business model, the rest did not see a need to make any major changes to their operations.

Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are the businesses which have been continually complaining to the government about the manpower shortage thanks to the tightening of foreign labour laws.

While some may legitimately be struggling, others have simply gotten too used to having a good flow of cheap, foreign labour to depend on.

Some of the concerns that SMEs raised in the survey include increased competition and manpower shortages.

20% of the SMEs indicated that they plan to expand overseas in the next year. This is an increase from the 14% who said the same in 2013.
The survey took responses from over 2,800 businesses.

Smes that don't make the cut should fold and shut down. We should not waste tax payers money and throw them more grants. This is against the principles of th free market.

Anecdotal evidence suggest that the ranks of the CC, CCC and other pappy related organisations are filled with businessmans from SME's.

LHL has repeated often that the PAP will NOT REDUCE THE NUMBER OF FOREIGNERS in the red dot.
There is therefore no incentive for SME's to improve productivity as they can rely on the pappy to allow the inflow of cheap labour.

The pappy also make use of the complaints by the SME's to justify the import of foreigners -therefore having another "symbiotic" relationship
at the expense of locals.
