Japan yes. But China is too focussed on building its economy and addressing the rural-urban gap to allow themselves to be sucked into a war. Their suspicions of Russia date back to Mao-Krushchev, and they'll never form an alliance. Russia is just a useful counterweight to NATO/US expansionism.
There's only one push factor for China to go into a war: when its territorial boundaries are being threatened. China has never been the sort of expansionist imperial power like Rome or Britain; throughout their history the Chinese have been more obsessed with guarding their borders. The memory of foreign incursions and parcelling up of China since the 19th century has strengthened their resolve even more to safeguard their territory at any cost, even war.

In 1979 they fought a war with Vietnam, which both sides claimed victory. If you count the number of soldiers killed, PRC lost more. They also did not achieve their objective which was to force Vietnam out of Cambodia. Either way, PRC was very ill-equipped to take on the Viets then who had just chased the Yankee giants out of their land and at the same time also very backward using Long-March era weapons and technology.

Vietnam kicked US military butt mainly because the Yanks were politically troubled by this war. There were protests at home and divided views in congress. They couldn't find a justifiable reason for their involvement and eventually pulled out. No doubt North Vietnam and the Vietcong put up a strong fight with the backing of commie powers PRC and USSR, the Yanks were not strongly willed nor convinced to fight. US military think-tanks had to review their stance in conflicts and this became apparent at their next major conflict in Iraq.
At the end of the day, Vietnam sees herself as a self-ruling and proud sovereign nation. She may have had PRC as a friend during the war with Uncle Sam, but will not hesitate to rebuke them should they become offensive. She is now in friendly terms with USA anyway.
