A 4-foot shark was swallowed by a goliath grouper fish in Bonita Springs, Florida, earlier this week, and video footage captured by a fisherman has now gone viral.

Casting off the side of a boat with a few friends in the Florida gulf, the angler hooked the shark, and began reeling it in. As it neared the boat and came to the surface, a monstrous fish emerged from the deep and swallowed the shark in a single, furious bite.

The Huffington Post reported that the user who uploaded the video also appeared to have posted a narrative of the events to Reddit.com.

"Ran out to the reef at around 8am yesterday and wasn't having much luck. Put out a chum block, set down some blue runners on the reef and waited," the user began.

At first, the angler hooked a small grouper, which was almost eaten by the bigger grouper. A half-hour later, a 5-foot nurse shark bit the line. While de-hooking it, the goliath grouper appeared again — but just to inspect.

"Finally, about an hour after the nurse shark, I hooked the black tip [shark] behind the boat in the chum slick, and then the hilarity in the video began," the user wrote.

Giant groupers are somewhat rare, and the Florida Museum of Natural History reported that their numbers have plummeted by 80 percent in the last decade. They can grow to 8 feet in length, and the largest ever caught weighed a whopping 680 pounds.
