The Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) claims its annual Liveability Survey could be used to "assign a hardship allowance as part of expatriate relocation packages," among other things.

But that needn't apply to those in Melbourne, which for the fourth year running has been declared the best city in the world to live.

The Australian culture hub was buoyed by superlative healthcare, infrastructure and education as well as a murder rate of 3.1 per 100,000 people, half the global average of 6.2.
Melbourne's total score of 97.5, assessed on various factors such as "stability" and "culture and environment," as well as those mentioned above, was just 0.1 points above Vienna, which scored identically across all categories to Melbourne except culture and environment.

The top 10 list hasn't changed since 2011 and of the 140 cities surveyed, only 20 changed score in the last year.

"Over half of the changes taking place over the past 12 months have been driven by deteriorating scores," said the report, "with instability re-emerging as a key factor in influencing global scores.

"Events in Ukraine, in particular, have had significant knock-on effects for cities such as Kiev, Moscow and St Petersburg.

"Localized instability has also affected locations like Bangkok.

"The score of Damascus in Syria has continued to decline, although the escalation in Iraq is not reflected in our ranking because Baghdad is not included in the survey."

Tehran in Iran, Tripoli in Libya and Amman in Jordan saw their scores improve, having "enjoyed periods of relative stability following significant falls in liveability."

But over the last five years, global liveability has declined overall, "highlighting the fact that the last five years have been characterized by heightened unrest in the wake of the global economic crisis."
Kiev (Ukraine), Tripoli (Libya) and Damascus (Syria) have seen the biggest falls in liveability over the last five years, says the report.

Singapore is ranked 52nd while Hong Kong beat Singapore at 31st.

In the Asia Pacific region, Bangkok ranked 103rd out of 140 cities in the survey. Other low-ranked Asian countries were Jakarta, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh and Phnom Penh.

The lowest-ranked city in Asia-Pacific is Manila, whose rank improved to the same level as Mexico because “the overall level of global liveability has been decreasing”, the EIU
noted.

It seems that despite paying our Ministers the highest salaries in the world, they can't even make Singapore reach the the top 10 list in livable cities.

What do you think?

all these surveys are fraud with skews and misrepresentations. the target audience is ang mo, and people who are surveyed are mostly ang mo's. obviously, they have biases from the get go. right off the bat, the humidity and heat in sg will be bugbears for these temperate-climate, fair-weathered world travelers. the year-round high humidity and equatorial heat will prevent an ang mo from sipping wine alfresco style under the sun for much of the year. if sg were not humid, not hot, and offer ample opportunities for a diner-winer to enjoy wine year-round out in the open and under the sun, sg would be lumpar one in world ranking for livability.

Auckland is falling rapidly. It used to be in the top 5.

The reason?... no PAP to run the show. If the PAP took over, it would top the list for sure.

I beg to differ! Ang Mohs are the Best, so their perception also the Best! If they feel that Sinkiestan is not livable, then it must be so! Because Ang Mohs are the Best!:biggrin::biggrin:

You mean Sinkiestan isn't run by PAP now?

Yes it is and they are doing a fantastic job given the circumstances. However, it is unfortunate that they have to govern a bunch of sinkies. If they were given the opportunity to run an Ang Moh country the sky would be the limit because Ang Mohs are the best.

This is what happens without the PAP.

Support grows for cops on Auckland trains

Auckland Transport is considering forming a special police force to improve safety on trains.

The idea has emerged after criticism by Auckland Council members of a lack of gates at most stations to stop people catching trains without paying fares.

"The provision of transit police is under investigation as a long-term option," an Auckland Transport spokesman said.

Manurewa Local Board chairwoman Angela Dalton says fights on platforms and vandalism are becoming prevalent, and commuters are reconsidering their use of trains after "being intimidated by young people of gang persuasions".

"They are also seeking money from old people, who are a bit more vulnerable - my concern is that somebody is going to get hurt," she told the council's infrastructure committee last week.

Councillor George Wood said a senior police officer had told a meeting of local board members that police were reluctant to travel on trains in uniform at off-peak hours "because they feel intimidated", a claim denied to the Herald by Inspector Alan Shearer of the Counties Manukau police.

"This is a bizarre situation - the world's most liveable city - ride the trains and get beaten up," Mr Wood said.

Committee member Dick Quax said councillors were being told there was no cash to install more station gates "yet money is being gobbled up by the [$2.86 billion] City Rail Link".

"One of the first rules of business is that you look after the customers that you [do] have, and clearly we are not ... if they are being attacked and being subjected to people carrying weapons."

Auckland Transport is pointing to a reduction in offences across the rail network, to 59 reported last month from an alarming 167 in April, after operations with police on the southern line including platform blockades against people without tickets.

It has also hired security guards at 10 stations in a 15-week trial due to end on Friday, when it will review the benefits of keeping them on, against a "considerable resourcing cost".

Listed offences include assaults on train staff and passengers, vandalism, trespass and "surfing" or clinging dangerously to the outside of trains.

The Rail and Maritime Transport Union says there have been at least 14 assaults on rail staff this year, one of which left a worker with a broken jaw, and is welcoming the start today of a trial by train operator Transdev of small CCTV cameras on the lapels of some ticket inspectors.

But infrastructure committee chairman Mike Lee said yesterday Auckland Transport should focus on providing more station gates before putting more "ambulances at the bottom of the cliff".

"We need to have gates at the top."

agree that ang mo's are the best. they discover and settle down permanently in all the nice places with temperate and mediterranean climates with beautiful views. look what happened when they lost their colonies in hot and humid areas? first thing was run road. second was go home or find a cooler place to park oneself. their only gripe with sg is that she's hot and humid year round, unlike spg's who can be as hot and moist all year as they cum. otherwise, sg is lumpar one.

only riff raff's such as neh's, tiong's, pinoy, arabs, viets, persians would settle permanently in a steam bath such as sg.

warm is very different from hot and humid. after 2 months of cold, wet weather, everyone welcums warm sunshine. in sg, everyone runs from the sun or carries an umbrella in dry weather.

of course sinkapore city would be number 52......it is only 52 out of kindness because it resembles a developed city with a semblance of infrastructure......otherwise it be a shithole

couple of points

1.this place is ungodforsakenly hot,if theres was a purgatory on earth, this would be it,its almost like "God" placed us here as a punishment.....i watched a episode of 1960s "twilight zone" once with rod sterling,it was showing a scenario when the sun was dieing and becoming engorged and grew so big there was no longer night and day,it was constantly "shining" and new york city was slowly baking to death.....the sun was beating down on the apartment flats and the heat was inescapable.....the weather grew so hot that u could burnt urself touching the doorknob of ur apartment or the windowsill.....inside the apartment, the inhabitants was been slowly roasted to death day by day and becoming insane.......i could swear the show was talking about SIngapore.

2.singapore is a shit city....why do i say that?because it is flooded with the sound of shit, everywhere u go u see people yakking and flapping their pieholes but u dont understand a single shit thats coming out of their mouth......all kinds of noises and animal like emanations is coming out but all u hear is shit.....how could civilised ang moh tolerate such lunacy?everywhere i go i bulk, heres a prc asshole, theres a bunch of prcs schoolgirls, heres a bunch of indian nationals, theres a bunch of bangras heres a foreigner i have no idea what but hey why not we have the biggest collection of foreigners on earth!!.......i swear to god sometimes i wonder whether im living in the twilight zone.

But these cities are not run by the PAP as well. How do you explain that? Could it just be Auckland hasn't caught up with the other cities above it?
