Police investigates man for making false police report

SINGAPORE - Police are carrying out investigations against a 58-year-old man for allegedly lodging a false police report of robbery, according to a statement from the police.

On August 3, 2014 at about 4.36 pm, the suspect called the police and informed that he was robbed by four unknown men on motorcycles in the vicinity of Kim Keat Link. He alleged that the motorcycles crashed into his car and that when he got out from the vehicle, he was punched and robbed at knifepoint.

Upon receiving of the report, officers conducted extensive ground enquiries, including retrieving close circuit television camera (CCTV) footage in the vicinity. The subject eventually confessed that he had lied about the robbery.

Investigations against the suspect are ongoing.

If convicted for the offence of Giving False Information to Public Servant under Section 182 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, he may face a jail term of up to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5,000, or both.
