They shot a civilian airliner with totally innocent people including children. Caught red handed by intelligence intercept and broadcast to the world, the only humour in all this is the excited eager separatist reporting his kill to Russian Military Intelligence handler only to realise his folly. Also caught is the BUK missile mobile system seen in the vicinity the day before by journalists is seen scrambling across the border to Russia.

Putin in his press conference today appeared sheepish and looked like a deer caught in the headlights of a car. The same hero who liked to show the world his bared torso while riding his horse.

Malaysia should look at the silver lining in this episode. Now the Russians will without any objections sell them the latest Migs armed with code sources good enough to sever LKY's intravenous line. The Russian military barn will be opened to the Malaysians for a big grab as much toys as you can carry. Almost free of charge.

In a way the sympathy is flowing in Malaysia and MAS way.

So far no Govt have armed separatist and rebels that they support with high altitude SAMs. These have been available since the late 60s. This is to avoid putting dangerous weapons in the hands of monkeys. They are well aware that civilian aircraft operate at high altitude. Guess the Russians had nothing between the ears.

The routes are authorised and acceptable as many areas of such routes are in conflict zones. This is really a first. Civilian aircraft and other aviation authorities will specify height so that aircraft do not below a certain limit in these zones.

The intended target were supposed to be US drones. Despite all that high tech wizardry, these are vulnerable to cost effective Soviet era technology. The monkeys went wild and tried to create a no fly zone.

Lots of finger pointing now on whose fault it was. It was a known fact that there are SAMs in the theatre - two military craft had been brought down this week. How did Eurocontrol and a majority of airlines (SQ included) come to the conclusion it was safe to overfly the area? Qudos to airlines like Quanta who put people before profit and voluntarily rerouted their flights.

High altitude SAMs have being in use for the last 40 years. Civilian aircraft has flown these routes with ceiling heights restrictions even during some period of intense conflicts.

Until recently I understand that civil aircraft were not allowed to fly below 26,000 ft in this zone.On 14th July, the no fly height was increased to 32,000 ft by aviation authorities due to incidents in the vicinity. MH17 was at 33,000 ft. The BUK can go all the way to 70,000ft. I guess the morons in Russia are indeed morons. What is interesting is the Aeroflot stopped using the route for sometime.

Russia has a case to answer.

How can increasing the ceiling to just 32000 feet be considered "safe" when the weapon can hit something at 70000 feet?

They falsely assumed that those missiles were in the hands of qualified and professional soldiers who had a proper command and control structure. Its a lesson to the world.

By the way this has been going for years. Those missile height capability was there for years.

It's like giving a wild or rebellious child a gun. Here, your present.

But no, Russia was behind it. And as I said, they can probably nuke someone and say we didnt do it.

Exemption of civilian harm from wars is a wrong and most stupid concept of conflict. No one must be spared and elimination of civilian is the most basic foundation of all confilicts. It had been wrongly neglected and forgotten but history still correctly recorded that annihilations are the most original and beggining of conflicts. No examption please. Go back to the most original basics please. Fuck Geneva Convention it has to be banned.

The original property of this world is naturally a brutal one. Nothing friendly nor kind. It is not provided with luxury choices. Just like how the big fish feeds from the small and goats eaten by wolfs and tigers. No complains, nor expectations. No rejection nor acceptance. Just 100% original and pure and NATURAL.

Most of all no right nor wrong.

i like how blame and fingers are pointed at russia and these extremist when the question is why did these greedy airline corporations continue to operate in risky conflict zones knowing full well the dangers that were there, they knew full well that these weapons have been sighted, their use have been confirmed and the potential capability of these weapons and they insisted on risking peoples lives in pursuit of profit?????cmon!!!!!!!its like insisting on flying over north korean airspace and praying nothing happens until something actually happens!!!!

saying that putin had lack of control over these weapons is ridiculous.....these weapons are proliferated all over the world, god knows how many countries and militaries, rogue or benign possess them......lack of professional qualified command and control structure r u serious?????the americans themselves shot down boeing 747 and this was in a warship with state of the art intelligence center and chain of command and high ranking officers and they still shot down a goddamn airliner!!!!!!

let me guess these airlines only care about money and they are operating on standard operating procedures until disaster struck so now they are scrambling to cover their ass and even the fucking cowards SIA are issuing statements that their planes have never operated in high risk warzones.

Should airlines publish their flight routes to customers in advance as part of the terms of contract? I think customers should have the right to know the flight routes as they are the ones who are paying for it. Those who are not comfortable with the route should have the option to switch to other airlines.

possible but honestly how many passengers would accept knowing that there is a more than real chance of them dieing?i mean im already scared of the plane crashing during normal circumstances u telling me theres a bunch of nutjobs with a SAM down there waiting to deal me the death sentence?u dont even need a weapon as good as BUK,even a antiquated SAM system like SA6 gainful is more than enough to shoot down an airliner.
