Little India riot: Lawyer M. Ravi to pay for application 'devoid of merit'

SINGAPORE - Lawyer M. Ravi has been ordered by the High Court to personally foot the bill for costs incurred over an application he made to quash criminal charges against five men implicated in the Little India riots last year.

IN AN unusual move, lawyer M. Ravi was made to foot the bill for an application he filed and later withdrew on behalf of his clients. This is because the High Court felt he had not acted in their best interests.

In his judgment yesterday, Judicial Commissioner Tan Siong Thye said that, under the Criminal Procedure Code, the court cannot make a cost order on the defence counsel.

M Ravi was the only pro bono lawyer in Singapore as almost all the lawyers in Singapore have been silent by PAP regime.

Now Tan Siong Thye added the oil but instructing M Ravi to pay derisory sum of SGD10,000.

DO you still remember how Tan Siong Thye conducted COI of SMRT break down? it was a circus and COI was conducted with the sole intent to save the face of SMRT!
