Companies faking SCDF credentials to sell fire extinguishers
SINGAPORE: Companies claiming to be endorsed by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) have been using aggressive techniques to sell their products to members of the public, including impersonating SCDF officers and threatening to issue fines if these products were not purchased.
The SCDF revealed this in a statement on Tuesday (June 10), and said it has not authorised any company to conduct such activities on its behalf, and that it is not involved in the sales of fire extinguishers.
The companies touting fake SCDF endorsements sell products including fire extinguishers, fire insurance, fire safety talks, and training seminars. In some instances, sales staff even showed the Civil Defence Emergency Handbook “to give the impression that they are representing the SCDF”, it said.
Those who wish to file a complaint against such companies can call the Consumers Association of Singapore's (CASE) hotline, visit its website or the office at 170 Ghim Moh Road, SCDF stated. - CNA/xy
