i gambled because i want to give my family a better life.

You may have a point here. Lots of people here need the authorities to instruct them how to live. Chewing gum is bad, males should not have "long" hair, don't litter, must be filial, cannot fire crackers on your new year. What should be common sense for good social behaviour in an urban setting has to come down by law and policy. It's been the way here for ages that its become the norm. Gahmen don't say, I don't know, gahmen say, I listen. Very simple.

When you use the description of "nanny state" it gives an impression of something being done for positive reasons

We are now all too familiar with what is going on in Spore: the double standards, rent seeking, white horses, you die is your own business,..... So let's stop using the euphemistic term "Nanny" & call a spade a spade.
