SIA squanders shareholders' money to do national service

SIA is wasting $100m to "sponsor" F1. This is national service to keep the F1 alive, with the duty to do national service passed from SingTel to SIA. Who is next to be mobilised: DBS, CapitalLand?

Should return $100m in dividends to shareholders.

THE Formula One Singapore Grand Prix is set to soar to new heights, with Singapore Airlines (SIA) coming on board as its new title sponsor.
In an announcement made at its Training Centre along Upper Changi Road East on Tuesday morning, the national carrier confirmed the two-year naming rights deal that will run through the 2015 race.
Said Singapore Airlines CEO Mr Goh Choon Phong: "We are thrilled to be taking up the title sponsorship of one of the most exciting races on the F1 calendar, and we are especially pleased to be doing so in the lead up to Singapore's 50th birthday next year.
"Singapore Airlines has always supported the development of both sports and tourism. Through our involvement with the world's first F1 night race we will be able to enhance both for the benefit of Singaporeans and visitors alike."

It promises to be quite the mouthful, the title of Formula One Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix.
But as the sport’s first night race enters into a new two-year title sponsorship deal with Singapore Airlines, it is easy to see why many believe that the pair are a natural fit.
After all, who better to partner the F1, the Republic’s biggest spinner of tourism dollars, to than the country's world-famous carrier?
Ong Beng Seng, the chairman of race organiser Singapore GP, suggested as much at the agreement’s announcement on Tuesday morning, when he described the partnership as a “synergistic” one.

It makes great business sense as F1 is an international event and SIA is an international carrier.

This year's FIFA World Cup in Brazil will be the most watched sporting event on the planet.

That doesn't mean a thing. Just look at the IQ graph of the world population. There are enough morons on earth to pack millions of football stadiums.

The PAP always talk about making a business case for this and for that. If F1 is not profitable on its own and has to rely on $100 million from SQ and whatever other GLCs, than they should be allowed to leave or go broke. But this is a prestige bragging rights show for the PAP, so lan lan must have it even though it costs the taxpayer money. Calculate until damn choon when it comes to free screening for breast cancer, and other medical procedures, but when it comes to spending money on angmor drivers and their angmo car companies, the sky is the limit. Fucking PAP.

Why should the taxpayer pay for the screening of boobs that don't belong to them?

Women can take care of their own titties. It costs no more than a hairdo.

Nothing the PAP does is profitable. Take Suzhou industrial park and F1 as prime examples. That's why they have to get GLCs to sponsor their ego-driven profligacy and eventually resort to taking out CPF and tax payer dollars to fuel their craving for international attention and the lust that accompanies acting like some big boy on the world stage.

Same as the S-League, albeit on a smaller scale. From NTUC Income-Yeo's S-League to Yeo's Great Eastern S.League.

SIA to the rescue. Another flop by the PAP. Government cannot pump money in to salvage it, so order SIA to do so. Save face.
