Around 2003 - 2005, I was working in an auto-parts manufacturer when Toyota announced that it planned to become the world's largest auto manufacturer. Well, that has come true as it made it to be the world's largest auto maker. With that title comes the inherent problems of maintaining quality to assembly line products and we see it happening. At that time, Honda was our largest customer. In reply to Toyota's statement, Honda said it didn't want to be the largest, just the best.

That if why the Toyota CEO was removed and Mr Toyoda returned to put things in order.
At least, Toyota is saving a lot on R & D to create a war chest for recalls.

Honda also went through some painful recalls. Their products are no longer as exciting.

SMRT taxis are using lot of toyota pirus. Hope the passengers and taxi uncles are safe.

I don't know if that has got anything to do with the founder Sochiro Honda leaving the scene. I consider him one of the greatest engineers in history. For motorcycles, few companies can match the number of engine configurations Honda has gone through. Their in-line 4 cylinder motorcycle engine set the standard for high performance big bore bikes, their six-cylinder CBX1000 was a grandiose motorcycle, Gold Wing was another milestone in two wheelers, and their cub (kapkia) is the most successful motorcycle in the world. During his time, he emphasized a lot in racing, GP and endurance and Honda was always up there in the two wheeled competitions. For cars, the Honda Civic says a lot about the brand.
