SINGAPORE - A 37-year-old man is now being investigated by the police after he is believed to have lodged a false police report, claiming that he was a victim of an armed robbery.

In his report made on Mar 14, the man claimed that four unknown suspects armed with a knife robbed him of his work permit and cash amounting to $300 outside Jalan Besar Stadium on Mar 12 at about 8pm.

Subsequent investigations established that the man may have lost his work permit after a drinking session at Serangoon Road, and he lodged the false report to cover up for the loss.

Investigations against the subject are on-going. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
