SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 22-year-old man believed to have stolen cashcards from vehicles near Sentosa and Telok Blangah Road.

Four cases of theft were reported in the area between February and March 2014, and cashcards that have a stored value of about $400 were stolen.

Police managed to identify the suspect and arrested him on March 16.

Three Autopass cards and two cashcards were also seized from the suspect’s possession as case exhibits.

Investigations against the suspect for possible involvement in other Theft from Vehicle cases islandwide are ongoing. If convicted, he may be jailed for 3 years, or face a fine, or both.

Police also urge members of public to safeguard their vehicles against theft by adopting the following crime prevention measures:

- Park in well-lit areas;

- Install an anti-theft system;

- Remove cash-cards and other valuables such as mobile phones and laptops before leaving your vehicle, even if it is for a short while;

- Ensure that your vehicle has been secured properly by winding up all windows and locking all doors of your vehicle; and

- Keep a lookout for suspicious characters in the vicinity. If you spot anyone tampering with other vehicles, take note of their appearance, attire, height, or any other distinctive physical features and call ‘999’ for assistance.
