SINGAPORE - Police arrested a 32 year-old man suspected of molesting a 26 year old female domestic helper at the void deck of Blk 22 St George's Road on March 4, 2013, at about 2pm.
According to a statement from the Singapore Police Force, the victim was walking alone at the void deck when the suspect approached and touched her inappropriately.
The victim informed her employer the next day and a police report was lodged. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Central Division managed to establish the identity of the suspect, and the suspect was subsequently arrested along St George's Road.
Investigations are on-going.
If found guilty of the offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 , the suspect may be jailed up to two years, or fined and also be liable to caning.
Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Daniel Tan, commended the officers for their quick response.
He added that employers with domestic helpers are advised to educate their domestic helpers to report the matter to the police at the earliest opportunity so that suspects can be quickly identified and arrested. Domestic helpers are advised to be vigilant especially at lone places and should avoid engaging in casual conversation with strangers.
