In an update on terrorism-related cases under the Internal Security Act, the Ministry said that Masyhadi Mas Selamat, 25, was placed on a two-year detention order on November 21 last year, after his arrest in Indonesia on Oct 20, 2013. The eldest son of JI-leader Mas Selamat was deported to Singapore on Oct 30 last year.

Detention of Masyhadi bin Mas Selamat
Masyhadi bin Mas Selamat (Masyhadi), aged 25, was detained on a two-year Order of Detention under the Internal Security Act (ISA) on Nov 21, 2013 for his involvement in the terrorist organisation, Jemaah Islamiyah (JI). Masyhadi was arrested in Indonesia on Oct 20, 2013 and deported to Singapore on Oct 30, 2013.
Masyhadi was schooled in JI religious schools in Indonesia from the young age of 13 where he imbibed JI's radical teachings, and had undergone paramilitary training there when he was older.
He formally became a member of the JI terrorist organisation after taking the oath of allegiance when he turned 21. He has, among other things, conducted JI surveillance activities and disseminated radical propaganda online in support of jihadist violence.
Imposition of Restriction Orders
Two Singaporeans, Zakaria bin Rosdan (Zakaria), aged 23, and Muhammad Khairul Sofri bin Osman (Khairul), aged 29, were placed on Restriction Orders (RO) under the ISA for a period of two years from Dec 2013.
Zakaria and Khairul were radicalised after searching for and viewing radical online videos and websites, through which they imbibed the violent ideology of jihadist ideologues and were inspired to undertake violent jihad in places of conflict like Syria.
Zakaria had tried to establish contact with a number of foreign militant entities online in an attempt to join them and get to the conflict zones. Khairul had encouraged Zakaria, abetting him in his plans.
Release of JI Detainee
Mohd Azmi bin Ali was released from detention and issued with a RO on Dec 15, 2013.
Azmi, who was detained under the ISA in Dec 2009, was a JI member who had taken refuge overseas to avoid detection by the Singapore authorities following the security operations against the JI network in Dec 2001.
He has been cooperative in investigations and has been responsive to rehabilitation, including religious counselling. It was assessed that he no longer posed a security threat that required preventive detention.
Lapse of Restriction Orders
The ROs against six JI members were allowed to lapse between Dec 2013 and Jan 2014.
They were Mohamad Anuar bin Margono, Ja'afar bin Mistooki, Mohamed Ellias s/o Mohamed Khan, Hashim bin Abas, Mohamed Nazir bin Mohmmed Uthman and Hosnay bin Awi. They had been cooperative and responsive to rehabilitation efforts.
